“I spent too long at West Ham”

|

SearsFreddie Sears fought a long losing battle to establish himself at the Irons and now admits – TOO LONG!

Five loan spells in four years tells its own story and he now admits he’d have been better off moving on earlier and getting match time.

He told The Mail: “It didn’t work out for me at West Ham. It was my goal to play for them, but maybe my regret is not leaving earlier and trying to get out and play more games.

“It’s a hard decision to leave the club you support and the club that’s local to you, but at the end of the day you need to be playing football.

I was 22 when I left; maybe I could have left a bit earlier and played more but West Ham’s a great club so it wasn’t easy.”

Elliot Lee is going to find himself in exactly the same position imo.He is going to need to move at some point. Before the Elliot should start in the prem club have a pop & tell me to leave poor Elliot alone i aint having a dig, just being a realist 😉

Haha are we sharing a bunker today?

Haha,no,i want to see Elliot do well.Just believe the lad will progress better with first team opportunities at a lower level. He aint ever going to be a prem player so best go make his name as a championship or lower league player like Freddie. It has worked out well for Freddie, could be the same for Elliot Lee i hope.No bunker needed today,im going to take it like a man, haha 😀

Agree with you entirely although I’d be careful taking it like a man with all this talk of doing the Ar$e about today lol

I’ve got to admire his honesty and I’m happy to see Freddie progressing well up the lower leagues. Might not find universal agreement but I can’t help but see the similarities with Freddie and Elliot Lee.

Great lad just a little bit short of being good enough,
He will do wel in the championship for many years to come
    Good luck Freddie

Why is he got my shirt XL it’s on all my shirts but inside,
Rads you are probably right about Lee but I live in hope and that was Freddie’s good senses he knew where the net was, but

Good luck to the lad, shame he couldn’t make the grade with us. The championship is his level & ipswich will suit him perfectly

Good luck to Freddie and hope he has a glittering career .. Just hope his honest opinion does’nt start to play on the minds of our current youngsters .
But I’m sure Bilic and the Board are well aware of that and will do their best not to let it happen. Our youngsters are our real future , so keeping them interested is paramount .
The Olymic Stadium and West Ham United await them . What more motivation can you have as a youngster than to be part of a Club that will be heading forever upwards . They can part of History .

I’m still disappointed that BFS didn’t give many chances to the likes of Junior Stanislas, Zavon Hines, Robert Hall and Freddie Sears before moving them on. Freddie was too often played out of position when he got the nod – either out wide and occasionally in midfield, rather than in a goalscoring position. His appearances were mostly off the bench and for only about ten minutes. Not enough time to warm up, tbh. Freddie is better than Championship standard……. if he nets 15+ goals for Ipswich Town this season, he could be snapped up by a Palace, West Brom, Stoke or Leicester in a years’ time. He just needed to play regularly, up front to score goals and gain confidence.
