Indecisive Dave managed to find a halfway house which suited nobody

Liverpool 5-1 West Ham

David Moyes was clearly caught in two minds when he selected his team for the Carabao Cup thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. His chosen eleven were not quite good enough to be considered a first team, but not rotated enough to ensure the team was fresh ahead of the Premier League game against Manchester United.

I just wish he’d have done one or the other because the opportunity was there to reach a cup semi-final. However, I don’t believe Moyes was particularly motivated to progress in the tournament, so what we had was a throwing of the fixture by stealth.

He wasn’t quite brave enough to select a team made up of reserves and young players, so he ensured a few first teamers were knackered ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off against Manchester United.

Motes selected a poor team against Liverpool

Indecisive Dave found the worst of both worlds

The 5-1 loss was a weird concoction of tactical naivety, a smattering of first team players, and a handful of reserves unable to play under the predictable Liverpool high press. It was a halfway house that suited nobody—a situation whereby the players who are uninvolved on a regular basis will have seen their confidence levels drop even further. Where our talented young players will finally be convinced they’ll not get a chance under any circumstances and where players like Bowen and Kudus were flogged to the brink of exhaustion chasing shadows.

As for the 6000 traveling fans… they really do deserve better.
