Irons defender gets “no loan” assurance

|

BurkeReece Burke has learned this morning there are no plans to send him out on another loan spell.

ClaretandHugh was told this morning that the young central defender is seen as an important player who is likely to get his chance to impress this term.

And we were told by a well placed insider: “The window has only just opened but we have no plans to put Reece out on loan  at this stage.

“With the Tomkins deal now in it’s final negotiaions stage he is a player we expect to see step up in the pecking order next season.

“He won seven awards at Bradford last season and that is a remarkable achievement at any level of the game. We continued to monitor his progress closely and he has shown remarkable progress.”

Burke will be on the ‘plane with the squad when they fly out to the States tomorrow (Sun) and is looking forward to it in a big way.

He said:  “I can’t wait for the tour, but I’m not looking forward to the flight! It’s going to be good for me to get back with the first team as I’ve been away from them for quite a long time now.

“Last season was one of my biggest so far. Going away and getting a load of games under my belt and getting loads of experience was great.

“I’ve really enjoyed it and the next step now is coming back in and showing what I can do. Only time will tell, and it’s up to Slaven. I want to take it step-by-step and see how it goes.”

“It’s a good time for the gaffer to have a look at me and all the other younger players too.”

Great lets hope he has a good preseason and can force himself into a first team place.

yes and also then we won’t need to splash out on another foreign import. That would give Oxford encouragement to stay with us.

So it looks like Tomkins goes, and Burke steps up the become 4th centre half. I would have much preferred another season of Burke loaned out (but to Championship), and keeping Tonks and Ginge. With Europe, all 4 CHs will play major roles, no doubt.
Win-win: Burke would then get an extra season of proper rough and tumble professional experience. We hold onto Tonks, so when Ginge prob leave end 2017, we still have Tonks and THEN Burke as 4th choice…
I’m gutted to see Tonks go. If he does, I’ll only wish him the very best….SAD…

I agree with all you say, but with them deciding to lose Tonks, this is the next best thing.

In Summer 2017, presumably Ginge will move on; with only Reid, Obgonna + Burke, will we be looking for another CH. Surely, Oxford would not be ready. Doneil Henry?
It just seems crazy that we could have had Tommo, and no need to look for another CH. Maybe Tommo simply wants more 1st team games…and isn’t happy to stay on; rotation not enough for him….Whatever, good luck to him. He’s been a model pro (apart from those problems with the law…isn’t 1st or last!); proper WHU. I just hope Chav Corner doesn’t boo him like Scott Parker…(I know they might not hate Palace so much as Spurs)

So we have Ginge,Ogbonna,Reid,Burke,Henry,as CH naturally plus Kouyate and Novedt that can play there as well
    Oxford ready any time now,
Maybe we should just get another couple in case we get a few injuries,
We can’t keep everyone just as backup and we need to give the youngsters a chance 2 seasons ago Hippo played Burke 5 times and he was solid and ready as he proved last term,
Tomo has has many years to prove he was the real deal and has not quite made it,
Time for him and us to part,he will have a new chance and I am sure Slav has someone else in mind to play alongside Ogbonna

The truth is although we all like to say we have a great accadamy system , there are only 1 or two if you’re lucky ever going to make it ! We must remember that if , as we all hope , that we will challenge the so called big boys , you do not do it with youngsters ? . We can’t have it both ways .
Tonks was a great club player , brought up through the ranks but unfortunately has not pushed on as hoped , the decision was probably made when a feeble attempt to stop rashford in the cup cost us another goal , tommo is prone to mistakes , and you don’t win trophy’s with players who have a history of cocking up ? Burke , oxford , Cullen , Bilic , Valentino , and about 10 others are evidently in the shadows in the accadamy but I can honestly say that most will not make it , its a fine balance now , its a different ball game , we want to move on but we are not going to do it with kids from the accadamy !!!
We will buy the best available when the opportunity arrises to achieve success and the more successfully we are the more we will buy with the exception of the one or two who break through who are streets ahead of the others . Its a buisness now not a sport as we would like it and success is top of the agenda, not the welfare of accadamy players who have as far as I can remember been used and abused across the board !
We are now a buying club , proved by the type of player we are trying to attract to the club,
Nuff said of my opinion as I’m writing a book !

Bilic ?? Balic = dyslexic auto correct .
