Iron’s long term deal looks a worry

|

West Ham’s decision to hand a long term contract to Arthur Masuaku back in 2019 is becoming a cause of concern.

The left sided defender/wing back’s injury worries are becoming increasingly regular and he has failed to make an appearance this season after being seen on just 13 occasions last term.

He is now contracted for another three years with a two year option attached.

He made just two appearances in April after being sidelined since December last term and despite repeated semi assurances that he is on the way back, the 27 year old is still sidelined after making two under 23 appearances as he bids to regain fitness.

The DT Congo’ man’s contract runs until 2024 and raises reminders of the long term deal handed to Winston Reid before he suffered a long term injury.

The reality appears to be now that young  Ben Johnson -despite being a right sided full back – is likrly to be the cover for Aaron Cresswell on that side with Masuaku continuing to look worryingly injury prone.

We have only played 2 games so far this season though i take the point it could be another Winston Reid situation.
