Irons make new signing promise

West Ham are closing in on securing the permanent signing of Alphonse Areola from PSG and intend to give him the chance to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.

The Hammers have been locked in negotiations with the Frenchman over a deal to bring him into the club permanently.

Areola played primarily as the cup goalkeeper this season, with the Hammers reaching the Europa League semi-finals, but we have been told that the stopper is now set to have the chance to make the No.1 shirt his own.

Areola asked to be given such an opportunity in talks with the Hammers and we understand that has been agreed, after Lukasz Fabianski saw his abilities questioned at the back end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Poland international is also set to stay with the Irons but he will be providing support to Areola as opposed to the other way around.

The Irons are also hoping to seal a deal to sign Nayef Aguerd from Rennes before the transfer window officially opens.
