Irons striker gets Moyes cold shoulder again

|

David Moyes has passed up any chance of passing judgement on striker Albian Ajeti as goals option for the Irons.

Indeed he seems unwilling to discuss the guy in any details at all which at Premier League level is a rather surprising development.

The manager – during a Zoom session with reporters – was asked specifically about the Swiss international as a possible answer to our upfront issues.

And he effectively gave the cold shoulder, telling the media they were probably in a better position to judge the player than him.

He said: “I think he had a chance against Newport. Was it Newport he played? I think you had a chance to watch him in a few of those games.

I only came in January and I didn’t get a chance to see much. I played him in the West Brom game. You and me have probably seen the same amount. I’ve probably see a bit more of him in training.

Obviously I see more of him in training. But you’ve had as much chance to watch him as I have in those games..”

There’s always firsts in this game, however long you have been around but telling the media they are in as good a position to judge a player as the manager really is a strange one.

Personally, given that Ajeti was sent to the back benches almost as soon as Moyes arrived it might have been a better to ask about Under 23 striker Xande Silva.

Assuming – and his bench presence suggests his fitness is okay-  it may be surprising that this seemingly highly talented and courageous young man hasn’t had any sort of shout yet.

I’m really struggling to understand this.

Brought in by the previous administration – allegedly from under the noses of Brentford – for circa£10m and virtually ignored.

Ignored, with disparaging comments, by the present incumbent and even less likely to see any game time.

Can somebody please explain the logic behind the deal, or the business decision to me?

I get the feeling he is saying ‘You’ve seen him play, so now you know why I don’t play him!’ Clearly Pelle and Moyes both have seen him in training and neither have rated him enough to play. I was at the WBA game and, although it was a very poor performance from WHU, Ajeti gave nothing up front. Its one thing scoring in the Swiss league, another to score/perform in the PL.

hardly a fair chance. no one offered anything that game all 11 players where awful.

David Moyes intransigence and lack of vision is what is going to get us relegated. Mark Noble is way past his best, but according to D.M’s recent comments he still sees him as our saviour. If he would stop playing people out of position and have a bit of trust in our younger players we might yet survive, particularly as our best player is only 21.

A player whoever it may be needs game time . This young man has not been given the chance to show what he can do yet he puts Anderson and lanzini on as subs in our last few games and there performances have been terrible. However bad our incompetent manager may think he is I bet he would have done better with the two chances Fornals fluffed. As we were very poor in our last few games why not put him on and let him try
