Jenkinson will cost Hammers over £4m

|

SCarl Jenkinson will be unveiled as West Ham’s sixth summer signing after the right back agreed a new season long loan keeping him a temporary Hammer until 30th June 2016. The 23 year old is thought to have agreed a new five year deal with Arsenal increasing his wages from £32,000 to £45,000 per week in the process.

His success as an Iron last year has come at a price as West Ham had to fend off other Premier League admirers such as Southampton and Sunderland.

West Ham are thought to be covering that £13,000 per week rise given by Arsenal for next season together with a £2m loan fee. His wages are thought to be £2.25m for his 50 week loan but a loan fee bumps that figure up to £4.25m.

Isn’t that £4.25 for the season? Sorry to be picky but that’s £3,846.15 a week we could chuck on top to entice another player lol

  • bubs says:

He is a good layer but I think this money is wasted and we start the season with him unavailable,so who is going to play right back for the first game
    Please don’t say JOB,

  • madham says:

f..k him off, cant believe he has signed new arsenal contract

    • Roman says:

Seems pointless persevering with Jenkinson when he has signed a new contract with A*senal. He will never become a hammer and not playing against A*senal is ********.Surely we can find someone else to fit the bill?

  • el martillo says:

Really can’t see the business case on this one. We’re going to look bloody silly if he gets injured with only O’Brien as back up … unless Leo Chambers has done a Lazarus, anyone know what happened to him? Perhaps Slav has had a word with his mate!

  • GW says:

Your spot on the business sense is questionable if the outlay is true, no one knows the true cost but still think we missed a trick in not going for trippier who cost the same amount as a year long loan

  • billy hammer says:

The deal as WE understand it may make no sense. The deal in reality could make perfect sense. We aint privy to the ins & outs of the deal, all i will say is that the Davids are no fools who like parting with their cash for hell of it.They dont do anything for nothing 😉

  • whambam says:

I can see this as a bit of business that suits our club
1/ Johnson wants 100k a week ( more than £4 million) and he’s past it
2/A decent RB would cost £10 million + wages at 50k
3/ We need the money mentioned above for other areas (striker)
So maybe next season and at least Jenks knows the set-up

  • Tysonm says:

Really cant say whether i think it is bad business or not because without seeing what the actual deal is on paper i cant tell.I will hold fire based purely on a few articles.Show me the contract then i will say its bad business.I suspect the Daves aint being turned over when we see the realities of the deal.I dont think this crafty pair will let Arsenal take money off us for the joy of it 😉

  • bubs says:

Still need a right back just imagine 2nd game of the season Jenkinson breaks his Leg,
JOB plays until Xmas until the transfer window opens,
How long will the feel good vibe last,
Sorry we have missed a chance to bring in a good right back,

  • Tysonm says:

We could have got in a new right back & he could have broke his leg & still ended up with JOB,lol 😉

    • el martillo says:

In the short term you’re right. But with a buy, after the leg had mended we would still have had an asset whereas with Jenks he would be on the northern line back to Arsenal.

      • Tysonm says:

Yes & the short term was what i was on about. That whether it be Jenks or a new signing,if they break their leg in the second match we still end up with someone like JOB filling in 😉

  • canchaz says:

As long as everyone realizes he is not a new signing in the true sense of the word. This is really like the new deal offered to Cresswell. Neither give us any more strength in depth, so splashing the phrase six signings is very misleading. To date, we have signed three experienced, ‘quality’ players that we can reasonably expect to improve the team in that department and if Downing goes, that will mean a net gain of two in the strengthening in depth field.
What this does do is clear up that uncertainty and allow Bilic to go full steam ahead on a back-up for Jenkinson (and maybe Cresswell) and focus on what he wants to do about the front end,,which may yet be nothing. After all he has already made it clear, he expects goals from his midfield

Lobe ya banter on here guys, makes me laugh but listen,we were on our arses four years ago.Buying freebies & second rate dross. If we had been told then we would have signed a 16m striker, had taken alex song on loan from Barca & would now have signed one of Marseilles star players as well as be moving into a 54k brand spanking new stadium you would have thought whoever told you had been on the meths. So i got to say that doubting the business acumen of two self made millionaires really is a bit daft.Im sure they are comfortable with the 2m outlay for a season. It fits into the budget,it fits into what they want to achieve with this summers available cash. This money will be paid out over a season & frees up readily available funds for what people on here seem to be calling for, reinforcements in the attacking sense.Next summer we enter a new era, bigger spending power. This deal suits the current situation.Have a little more faith in the board, they dont seem to be letting you down a great deal.

    • Chicken Runner says:

I will run with that Vic,fair points. But i dont doubt their business sense because im a pauper, lol 😉

  • Lt. Quickdrawovic 1st Slavalry C&H Regt says:

Great perspective Vic,you’re probably spot on. The details would be nice but then that’s what Hearn wants so I don’t really wanna be like him. My judgement might be clouded by my loathing of the woolwich rejects it just seemed with what had been stated they’d had one over us. A buy out clause would be nice but he’s coming so I hope he does well,he’ll have to now after all this debate lol

  • jetshammer says:

It’s likely that Hendrie will be the back up for Cresswell and someone from the dev/youth squad will step in for Jenkinson. However, opening game against Arsenal it may be a more experienced player at RB as it’s a big ask for a kid. Might even seen one of the other CBs shift over to RB for the day to keep it solid. Or even Kouyate as we have a lot of midfielders to fill the gap and he’s a bit more versatile.

That said I can’t see Slav deviating from his plan much if he intends to use Kouyate in midfield and, given good form, him being a mainstay there.
