Journo: Hammers leading race for hot shot

|

West Ham are leading the race to sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn Rovers, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The self-styled transfer insider claims that the Hammers are continuing to lead the chase for the Chile international after exploring a move in the summer.

The Irons did not eventually do a deal, instead signing Italy international Gianluca Scamacca.

Brereton Diaz has continued to impress for the Championship club, though, as he has scored nine goals in 23 games thus far this term.

Those goals have propelled Blackburn into third place in the second-tier.

Jones acknowledges that there is plenty of other interest in Brereton Diaz but it appears that the Irons could well be the ones to extricate him from Ewood Park.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones said: “I think West Ham are still in a pretty good position on this one for whenever the time comes to move, but he’s been prepped by a lot of teams this season, like a ridiculous number of teams.”

The Irons could do a deal for a new striker in the January window, although it will be dependent on the asking prices of those who are identified.
