Kouyate last gasp strike saves lucky Irons

|

Sakho crossed

Irons 2 Norwich City 2

Cheik Kouyate grabbed an injury time leveller but the Irons were never convincing against a Norwich team who looked to have done enough to get their first win at Upton Park since 1989.

The big midfielder prodded home after Dimitri Payet’s free kick was punched into Andy Carroll by Canaries keeper John Ruddy and fell perfectly for him from close range.

It was the second time we’d come from behind following Brady’s opener which was fired into the bottom corner after a sloppy pass towards Tomkins from Noble.

Hammers top man for me, Diafra Sakho levelled after meeting a low cross from Payet after setting him away on the right.

Norwich had controlled the first quarter with some good possession football but as we pressed and squeezed forward things had changed and we took charge.

That came about after we abandoned our preferred counter attacking game but once again the visitors were allowed to control large periods of the second half.

Cameron Jerome was always a threat and had fired wide when it was easier to score in the first half. On 60 minutes he crashed in a shot which nearly took Adrian’s head off his shoulders but WHAT A SAVE πŸ™‚

Sakho and Payet were always dangerous and the way Sak led the line was a joy to behold but it looked all over when captain Noble managed to usher the dangerous Nathan Redmond onto his strongest right foot to fire him an angled shot through a crowd of players and past Adrian.

Carroll had a chance near the end when arriving as a late sube but instead of getting aΒ mere touch on a ball in, took it own and Ruddy fell on it.

However, Kouyate managed to save a point with his oh so vital late goal but this was far from convincing.

    Still 3rd πŸ˜€

Well done Kouyate, good lad.Really wish Noble would stop trying these passes across the pitch. He is always cocking them up.Leave it to the players who can do it properly Mark πŸ˜‰

  • Muckracker says:

Not a bad result. Cant win them all.

Just hope though that when Song is fit he wont have to suffer Obiang’s fate. lt cant be fun warming the bench when you are a neater, tidier and all together better player, but you cant start because you dont wear the Captain’s arm band.

Noble really is a liability at times. If West Ham want to challenge in the top 6 then players like noble simply aren’t good enough. We saw him give the ball away several times v Newcastle and he’s at fault for both goals today. Carroll was simply awful and I don’t want to see him in a West Hma shirt again. West Ham were lucky today.

Agree with your comments on noble. Think if he was from Camden Town and not Canning Town he wouldn’t be idolised and possibly not even captain!!
But don’t agree with your comments on Carroll. He was rusty today which he will be but he caused the confusion for the equaliser and did more than zarate in my opinion.
In the winter when we are scrapping for points I know who I’d rather have come on

      • JimmyJazz says:

Carroll is always rusty and always has excuses. The fact is the game changed when he came on. He may have helped with the equaliser but I honestly believe we would have won if he hadn’t come on because his arrival was a momentum changer in Norwich’s favour.

Agree Muck.I love Nobles enthusiasm & desire to win for us but technically we will have & do have better players than him.Hope that Slav sees this soon, especially when Song is back.Nobes had a poor game today, could have just been tired, but he cost us dear with his mistake.

  • Dainon says:

Noble has been inconsistent so far this season & will lose his place if he don’t sort it ASAP. Song could well take his place anyway when he returns, I alway thought Reid should have been skipper anyway as he’s one of just a few who are sure to start, cresswell & Adrian could also have a shout but I think Reid’s been here longer and deserves the captaincy more

Still 3rd in the league, only lost 2 of 7,3 massive wins away, plenty of goals in our games,we are scoring every match.Im loving this rollercoaster ride.Agree with Noble comments,he was well off the pace again today.Dont like to single players out but i must say he could be in trouble soon if he doeant cut out the errors.Recently they aint cost us,today it did.Obiang sat on the bench,Song to return. He might be our talisman according to some but i dont see it.Play your best team when available. For me personally Noble doesnt get in our best team πŸ˜‰

Respect the point. Afterall we are still third.
Noble has been “delivering” a few of those wayward pass straight to the opponents(which he got away before this match) and he must learn not to commit these mistakes again.
He was at fault for the goal, but in the end the draw is kind of a fair result. (Kouyate might not get that all important equalizer if Noble didn’t commit that lethal mistake.
The team is still finding the way to play at home where the team needs to control the match and attack better.
For a team that is still a work in progress, being 3rd is no small wonder. Another International break on the horizon and that would enable our team to gel better and play better.
Gutted not to see Antonio came on to show us what he can do but fair play to the still “unfit” Andy Carroll, he has a hand on the equalizer.

No worries next match is another away match, against Palace.

    Come on you IRONS!!!

  • Vic Hammertime says:

By christ you would think by reading some of the comments on our fellow Irons site we had just lost 4-0 at home.Im enjoying the ride, yes we never won today but it is never boring,i dont find myself almost falling asleep in the stand like last year after a few prematch bevvies, lol.Still 3rd in the league, not 3rd from bottom πŸ˜€

  • Tony gore says:

Question mark???? Sunderland have got to come good sometime against some one??

  • canchaz says:

    A work in progress?
It seems obvious that this team is still a work in progress and that Slav’s main job is to get them playing at home as well as they play away, no easy task when you look at the difference in the same players when they get back on home turf.
By the way Hugh, your second from last sentence is gibberish.

  • Tone says:

I can live with a team thats a work in progress that are sat 3rd in the league.I would be worried if we were a work in progress sat in the bottom 3!
