Lawro’s prediction

Mark Lawrenson believes West Ham will drop points against Burnley.

The Hammers were unbelievable on Thursday as they defeated Lyon 3-0 in their own backyard to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they are set to play Eintracht Frankfurt.

On Sunday, though, they will be back in action in the Premier League against the managerless Clarets.

Burnley sacked Sean Dyche earlier this week in a move which is sure to spark plenty of heated debate, although Lawrenson made his predictions prior to the news breaking of his sacking.

Nevertheless, he believes that the relegation-threatened Burnley will be able to stun the Irons and nick a point from the clash at the London Stadium.

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, he said: “Burnley’s result at Norwich last weekend was as bad as their result over Everton a couple of days before was good.

“I expected the Clarets to kick on after beating the Toffees but to follow up a huge win like that by going to the bottom side and losing is a big set-back. I know Maxwel Cornet missed a big chance to equalise at 1-0, but I thought Norwich were comfortable.

“What might help Sean Dyche’s side here (As we pointed out, this prediction was made before his sacking), is that West Ham have a huge Europa League game on Thursday night – they have a small squad and that is the game where David Moyes will pick his strongest team. Even so, I don’t see the Hammers losing this one at home.”

Burnley are currently firmly mired in the relegation battle, sitting 18th ahead of the weekend’s round of fixtures; Norwich beat them last weekend. They have only won four games this season.

Lawro’s prediction: 1-1
