Mayor has nothing to hide on West Ham deal

|

BorisLondon Mayor, Boris Johnson has told theย London Assembly Mayor’s Question Time on Wednesday that he is happy to release details of West Ham’s confidential agreement with the LLDC insisting he has nothing to hide.

“I would be perfectly happy to publish the details of the arrangement,” Boris told the London Assembly.

“I understand the football club concerned is not so keen because they think it will give other clubs an inside into their finances and so forth.”

“We have been very up front over not publishing the details so far as we have only just concluded the final letting contracts,ย We did not want to put anything out that would impact on our ability to negotiate future contracts.”

“But it should be a matter of public record and we should be very proud that we have got a Premiership football team in that stadium.”

“The stadium has been a fantastic success. It is doing brilliantly and it is basically unlike any other Olympic Stadium around the world as it has a long-term viable future with Premiership football at the heart of the deal.”

“I thought that was the right way forward for London and the right way forward for the Olympic Stadium. There are Olympic Stadiums around the world that are totally mothballed and don’t have any real activation in them. Go to Athens, go to Beijing.”

“It was perfectly obvious to me that the stadium could not have had a long-term future without a Premiership club in it.”

“We’ve got nothing to hide, we’ve got a very good rental agreement with West Ham and it’s fantastic that we will not be spending any more public money on this, so let’s get it out there.”

Well said Boris, if it is going to come out eventually and the contract is watertight then get it out so the negative press has a chance to hopefully die down before we start next season. Wait until we lose a game and get all the bad press out in one hit !!!

    well said 32
but to be honest it is none of there business how our finances are run nor any of there’s what package was on offer to us as they all had the chance to go for it themselves. i still cant see to what end all these protesters are after i just hope this will be the end of it once and for all. if the truth be known we are no better off as it stands we own everything at UP but not here & as others have said before WE ARE ONLY TENANTS ffs wish these people would get a life

Agree Ray, it isn’t any of their business and we should be able to tell em to f00k off, this is the problem with FOI it can be exploited for no genuine intent or purpose, just for busy bodies to stick their oar in and give themselves a false sense of importance, at the end of the day we are renting a site to play football 25 days a year thats 340.25 days a year they can run other events there in theory. I am not sure how the state aid comes in which is their premise for this apparently ( i guess its related to the LLDC footing the police bill but who knows). Perhaps they would rather see ยฃ700 million go down the drain rather than see a return on it.

Thing that i find funniest is,as others have pointed out on here, many Addicks fans think Prague***** is just an interferring busy body who loves a crusade to get his teeth into. This OS campaign by him is by no means universally supported by all Addicks fans.Quite a few are embaressed by him,i have heared my friends talk about him who support Charlton & they are less than complimentary about him & his little foot soldiers ๐Ÿ˜€

  • HamburgHammer says:

Also PragueAddick has now mentioned how his real name has been mentioned on West Ham blogs (by me for instance), making out as if West Ham fans were trying to make it personal. Well, it is personal as I don’t see any kind of significant people supporting him.
25,000 signatures from a petition covering football fans from all over the country ?
Also he’s been pushing this request to the Information Commissioner and the appeal too, so ultimately this decision to publish the deal will be very much down to him, the petition was a thing happening at the same time but wasn’t really relevant in any way other than causing the publication of a few more newspaper articles ever so slightly biased.
So the guy doesn’t like his real name being mentioned yet apparently is happy enough to appear on Sky Sports for some soundbites.
With his fantastic track record in sorting out issues for the taxpayer, maybe he should try his luck at saving the rainforest now, solve the refugee crisis or do what he is supposed to do as a CAS Trust guru: Make sure that more than 14,000 fans find their way through the Charlton Athletic turnstiles for games…

  • Tony says:

The guy is a jerk HH.I have been on another Charlton forum a friend who is an Addick showed me.Itmis from a couple of years ago i ago i admit but the lads on it where ripping him to pieces. What we need to remember is that this is just a small band of brothers banging a drum whjich many aint even listening to.The jide bejind the banner of the tax payer but many a tax payer doesnt care about the OS.Most are more concerned about other issues involving their taxes.30k of petition signatures is pathetic. As you rightly say,the guy is all about anonymity but puts himself on offer for tv shows,as he is today on Sky.He wants his fifteen minutes of fame then he can move onto his next project.Something else which will mean little to the British Tax Payer as a whole but keep him busy during his dullard life playing at being a voice of the people.I have no time for guys like him,who most the time just want to have their names in lights.

  • Tony says:

Read this,it makes me laugh from the Into The Valley forum. This is what my mate showed me.Very amusing about the PraguePr#ck-

  • StingRay Stewart says:

Brilliant Tony, that made me laugh. Is pretty much what my Addicks buddies still think of him in general. Most dont have too much good to say about CAST either.Nevermind,im sure they are happy in their own little world fighting for Tax Payers, lol

  • Sams P45 says:

Lol,that Richard Hunt looks a right slimey worm.Reminds me of one the dodgy MPs where i live ๐Ÿ˜€

  • petebonds says:

We all know the creeps behind this movement ,and they are using this gullible and ill informed bunch of rival supporters to fan the flames ,probably in the mistaken belief that they can somehow stop our move to the O.S taking place .I doubt this protest would be
taking place if the Spuds were moving in instead . Publish by all means , but then lets have a look at all the top teams finances and dealings as well .Probably a lot of skeletons to be discovered if the truth be known , who shall we start with ?

  • ironswatch says:

yes get it out so all the other jealous clubs can shut up and put up totscum, charlton who? and all the others and lets get on with it I love the way they used the excuse that they were censored about the tax payer lol when really they are green with envy I hope chelsea and tot don’t get to play at wembley and have to go to M/K DONS for a couple of years
