Mooro would have hated this – he deserves better

|

Mooro applaudedHow sad that in the week the brilliant  ‘definitive ‘ book on Bobby Moore is released, a national newspaper – in the shape of the Daily Mail – should choose to ‘splash’ negatives involving the great man and his legacy.

A story declaring that West Ham no longer provide ongoing support for the  cancer charity is the best our Mail l ‘friends’ can manage.

I was pleased , in a very small way, to help author Matt Dickinson with some Mooro anecdotes. That the Mail should take this route with Matt’s brilliant book is pretty bloody in my terms!

WHUFC has immediately pointed out that last year the Bobby Moore Fund received in excess of  £50k from the club and that the final pre-season friendly at the Boleyn Ground was ‘in aid of the BMF.

And ClaretandHugh was told by the club that the Foundation will get another awareness game this season in the Premier League, which is in the process of being arranged with the Fund.

Bobby was my hero, a man I worked alongside for several years, a gentleman of the first order who was everything he is said to be by those who knew him and came into contact with him.

Bobby Moore had true class. I never heard him swear, I never saw him get angry, I never saw him even exchange upper level words with anybody.

Bobby and I wrote  many columns together and the great man passed on some terrific stories – he knew how journalism and the media worked.

And I know that he would have absolutely hated what the Mail has chosen to do today.

There is no denying that Bobby was a True Gentleman, but I do feel he was badly treated by both Our Club & The FA, that is Fact.
