Moyes delivers bad news as Alphonse Areola is ruled out for Tottenham

David Moyes has confirmed that Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola will miss tomorrow night’s London derby against Spurs.

The Hammers’ current No. 1 was forced to withdraw at halftime during Saturday’s 4-3 loss against Newcastle, with Lukas Fabianski replacing him.

Speaking in his West Ham v Tottenham pre-match press conference, the Hammers’ gaffer confirmed the bad news. Moyes said: “Alphonse has hurt his groin. We’re hopeful that it’s not too serious, but he won’t be available on Tuesday night.

“He might be back quite quickly, so we’ll just have to see how things develop over the coming days.”

While it was difficult for Fabianski against Eddie Howe’s Toon side, he didn’t enjoy the best of games as he conceded three goals in a half, with Harvey Barnes passing the ball between the keeper’s legs.

That being said, West Ham had retreated into full defensive mode by that point in the game, and he stood no chance with Alexander Isak’s penalty.
