Moyes explains Declan’s leadership influence

|

David Moyes has declared that Declan Rice is doing a really good job of following Mark Noble’s dressing room leadership model.

For years Nobes has been the central figure among the squad and Declan has  learned from him and watching others at other clubs.

Beyond being a great player, for one so young the maturity in his approach to things has been quite remarkable.

Declan himself has often revealed that Mark is the player he has looked up to throughout his Hammers career and it has been fascinating to see how he has grown into the role.

Moyes explained that Jordan Henderson, Harry Maguire, Harry Kane,  are great leaders  and the good thing has been that Declan  has had is the opportunity to see how they operate.

But Nobes has been the one who has inspired Declan with the manager declaring him to be “a brilliant, loyal captain who, for many years, has carried the dressing room.”

Speaking of him and the others in his pre-match presser he said: “You hope that Declan’s looking at them and how to operate  because leadership can come in different forms.

“Some people lead through talking and communicating, others through their actions, so there are many different ways leadership is important.

I think the biggest thing is that when you’re on the field, you have to take responsibility. You have to want the ball. You have to take sole responsibility for the team, no matter how it goes.

Mark Noble over the years has done that here at West Ham, and Declan at the moment is doing a really good job of following.
