Moyes gives injury update

|

David Moyes has revealed that he is unsure if either Mikey Antonio or Kurt Zouma will be fit to play Southampton on Sunday.

The striker has been dealing with an illness that has left him bed-ridden at times this week, and he is subsequently a doubt for the clash with the Saints.

Zouma is also suffering with an illness – it is unclear if it’s the same one – but Moyes has revealed he has the “sniffles” and may also be ruled out.

Thilo Kehrer, meanwhile, is likely to be back, while Maxwel Cornet remains on the sidelines with his calf strain.

It remains to be seen if the Ivory Coast international is able to return for the encounter with Liverpool next week, on Wednesday evening.

Speaking ahead of the Saints game, the boss told reporters, as per the club’s official website“Antonio is a little bit better,” Moyes said. “Kurt has got a little bit of the sniffles, so we will need to see how he is as well.

“Thilo was more of a precaution than anything. We expect him to be okay [for Southampton]. Maxwel has had a small calf strain, so we have got to be careful with him. Obviously, he’s not available for the Southampton game.”

The Hammers boss has also revealed that Angelo Ogbonna has a hamstring issue, while Craig Dawson was substituted against Anderlecht as a precaution.

He added: “I think Angelo felt his hamstring. He felt it really early, in his first run. He’s someone who was coming back from really serious injury and we’re disappointed he had to miss a big part of tonight’s game. He’s making good progress, so let’s hope tonight’s injury isn’t too bad.

“Daws had a dead leg anyway and I think he got another one tonight right in the same spot, so we took him off more as a precaution rather than anything else.”
