Moyes in transfer window reality check

|

David Moyes has repeated his mantra that he’s more interested in players he has at West Ham than those at other clubs.

The boss  claimed that to be his position when he arrived at the Hammers last time around and was being pushed, pressed and harried into making new signings.

It’s much the same this time around. He remains far more enthusiastic on the now rather than what might be!

Having survived relegation and now with his hand firmly on arrivals  and outgoings he seems keen to make the same point after being linked with the likes of Shane Duffy and Eberechi Eze.

It’s a reasonable position perhaps as with money so short allegedly he will presumably be pretty restricted in who he does manage to sign either permanently or on loan.

He was keen to make the point on returning from Scotland where the squad is claimed to have developed great fitness and a unity of purpose.

He is quoted in the Evening Standard as saying: “I’ve always been more interested in the players we’ve got than the ones who are at other clubs, so I think the improvements we made from the restart after lockdown were good.

“We’ve got some bright young players and some players who are improving, so if we can add to it, great, but as I’ve reiterated a few times, the owners spent a lot of money over a year ago, and I’m sure we don’t have that amount of money available to spend again.”

  • Big Shep says:

Zabaleta, Ngakia have both left. Fredericks and Johnson are very injury prone and not premier league quality yet. We need a RB. Doesn’t matter about money – this is a desperate need.

Cresswell is the only LB and his legs have gone. We need a LB.

LB, RB, back up CB, back up ST. That is the minimum investments needed this summer, otherwise it is just another relegation battle.

Not sure that we need a back-up CB, we have Balbuena and if needed Rice can slot in, Reid… injury record poor, Cresswell has also played CB on occaisions. As Shep says, we need a RB and a LB, we also need a back-up striker to replace Huggill. Disagree with Shep that Johnson isn’t PL level, haven’t seen him do anything wrong so far and that has included playing both flanks, think he has the poitential to be World Class as a defensive full back.

Am with you. We can also play three at the back, a formation that suits Cresswell. Balbuena only played poorly when the human sieve was in net and will have better backup with Soucek and Rice playing in front of him. BJ’s (not the PM) confidence improved with each match and appears to be ready.
Frankly, am looking forward to the season.

Ajeti and Hugill gone too.The squad is threadbare now unless he intends on using the inexperience of the U23 players at his disposal. We desperately need a LB and RB even though Johnson has come through.Do not trust Fredericks and Cresswell .They were exposed so many times last season. Is Xande Silva our back up striker now ?.

It’s just another way of putting That they dont want to spend money…very very tiresome..🙄

  • Mike says:

Fed up with hearing how we’ve got no money. The big clubs are still spending big. That’s because they realise there’s no better time to go after the big players than now. Top players available at half the normal price. The big clubs will be filling their boots. You’ve got to speculate to accumulate. Money spent now in this market will pay dividends in the future when the prices go back up to pre Covid levels.
