Moyes lays down the goals gauntlet

|

David Moyes has urged his Hammers side to spread the goals around the team after struggling to hit the back of the net at the start of the season.

The Hammers had another profligate display against Liverpool at Anfield, ultimately losing the game 1-0 thanks to Darwin Nunez’s header.

Jarrod Bowen missed a penalty in that game, while Tomas Soucek was also denied by a late James Milner block, despite being just six yards out.

The Hammers have scored just nine goals in 11 league games this season; only Everton, Aston Villa, Wolves, and Nottingham Forest have scored fewer.

And Moyes has now called on the entire team to start hitting the back of the net as the Irons aim to continue climbing the league table.

Speaking to reporters, as per the club’s official website, Moyes said: “All we can do is make the players more aware that we think we’re missing too many opportunities. We need to get a better goal tally than we’re getting than at the moment.

“We’ve got to get goals all around the team.”

Bournemouth, ahead of Monday’s game, have a woeful defensive record and have conceded 23 goals this term; only Leicester have conceded more.

The more I listen to him, the more I am beginning to realise he will be the next manager sacked. More goals will come if he picks the tight attacking team. If he plays Soucek agsin in midfield on monday night and we dont win fir ne its time to part company. We cannot continue to be negative and expect to get more goals and better performances. The manager has the most important role here but he does not give the players a chance with his defensive team selections. The team on monday night needs to be on these lines Fab, Coufal, Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell, Rice, Fornals, Benrahma, Paqueta, Bowen, Scamacca. We don’t need 5 at the back nor fo we need Soucek or downes in midfield. Surely Moyes has the intelligence to see this. Monday night is a just win.
