Moyes: Rice/Maximin a key battle

|

David Moyes believes that the showdown between Declan Rice and Allan Saint-Maximin may decide who wins this weekend’s game between West Ham and Newcastle.

The Hammers are out to pile the pressure on the top four with a victory over Eddie Howe’s side, who have been in good form.

They have won  their last three games, while the Irons have only won one of their last four encounters.

West Ham are now two points behind Manchester United ahead of this weekend’s game, while the Magpies are four points clear of Norwich, with a game in hand.

Saint-Maximin is perhaps Newcastle’s best player at this point, with his pace and trickery a vital cocktail in the final third of the pitch, and Moyes believes that he and Rice are both going to be central on Saturday.

He told reporters: “Saint-Maximin has done a really good job for Newcastle. He is a big part of where they are at the moment. When you’re winning and in good form you show up a lot more.

“Declan Rice has added the carrying and the running of the ball to his game than he has done in the last season or two but I think that’s come with the age.

He is still a young player and still improving. I think his ability to run with the ball and play passes through, he has the ability to do both, but I would agree they are two very talented individuals.”
