Moyes set to move on defensive duo this summer

|

David Moyes is all set to snatch Jonny Evans from West Brom this summer and looks highly likely to move foe his central defensive partner Craig Dawson.

The Hammers boss is also keen on Swansea’s Alfie Mawson having decided that he needs to strengthen in numbers at the back ahead of the new campaign.

Evans, 30, has a relegation clause in his deal which lets him out for a modest fee whilst Dawson – contracted until 2020 – would cost the Hammers around £5 million.

With Declan Rice now established at the back alongside Angelo Ogbonna, the Hammers – with Winston Reid also on the books – will have a powerful defensive set up although it’s fair to question the wisdom of signing TWO relegated Premier League defenders.

There are question marks over Reid’s future given some indifferent form and injury issues and the club would almost certainly entertain offers.

However, Evans has been on the radar of such as Arsenal and Manchester City but the Irons believe they can persuade the thiety year old into the London Stsdium on decent personal terms.

I thought we need improving defensively, so how will signing the defensive king pins of a relegated team improve our defence. They have conceded over 54 goals and are bottom of the league but I suppose they will be cheap which fits in with our recruitment template.

Same old WHU boatd, taking us to next level shame that appears down a level

Give them a break – Evans is on the radar of all the big boys too, so he can’t be a complete muppet (although stealing that taxi in Barcelona wasn’t a sign of genius!)

On the radar? Really though? If he was on their radar they would’ve bought him. I think it’s just agents talk

  • doc66 says:

If they’re not gonna give Ginge a new contract then Evans would be a good replacement for him. Get rid of Reid and bring in Alfie Mawson. He will cost a few quid but we should get a half decent price for Reid so put that money towards buying Mawson.
Rice, Ogbonna & Mawson would be a good back 3.

  • Dunlopilo says:

Forgive me but I just don’t understand this fascination for Mawson. He is just an average typical British center half. Physical but with limited technique, slow and heavy. There a re tons of other center halves in other championships who could bring more than him, at a lower price.

While I like Morrison as a player I agree many a championship player would be equal to him at a fraction of the cost A player I like is Dan Burn of WIgan it would be a big step up but I think he would be worth a gamble very strong and chips in with goals
