Moyes/Sullivan buying policies under microscope

|

By Hughie Southon

The next few weeks or months are going to be interesting from one particular point of view!

Over several years since we birthed this website there have been protests and complaints about the way we have bought players.

David Sullivan has been heavily criticised for some of his purchases and for having his fingerprints on such an issue in the first place.

All well and good but it needs perhaps to be remembered that we have now remained in the Premier League for over 10 years. Good going taking in a change of home also.

This has been the first season that the board have passed all overall transfer dealings to a manager – David Moyes and his colleague Rob Newman plus the recruitment team he has established.

That came after many calls that the manager had to be allowed to make his own decisions, but we have yet to find out just how successful this new purchasing policy will be. At the moment it’s not looking too great.

History appears to demonstrate that we haven’t done too badly under the previous way of operating.

We wait to see whether the manager’s purchases prove more successful!

It’s not so much the purchases made but how Moyes uses them and shows faith in them.
He must always play them in their favoured position or else what’s the point in buying them in the first place

I agree with ‘Upton Buddy’ and it is sad to critisize Moyes again but i have read that two international managers have been upset that ‘their’ players are being played in different positions to that they made their mark in before changing clubs. We have recently sold a couple of our new players at half their purchase cost or less. Remember the ‘good days’ only a year ago that he introduced, fast flowing moves and attack whenever possible. Yes when he took over and introduced Soucek and Lingard we played lovely flowing football. Suddenly he changed both Dec and Tomas’ roles, started playing players out of position with a ‘dont lose’ mentality and we crumbled. He has disillusioned the young players, including awful treatment of Johnson, held back Conor and Flynn, sacked off Vlasic and Kral with hardly a game and signed some technically good players who are clearly not in the roles they were pre-signing. We are all over the place and don’t play fluid football any more. Scant attacks living off scraps. We are in the sherbet.

Moyes is utterly hopeless. No doubt levy loves it .

I don’t think Moyes changed rice and Souchek roles, I think rice decided he was going to try and get forward more and score more goals which means Souchek has had to stay back more to cover him.
