Moyes’ tactical masterpiece

Fair play to David Moyes – switching Lucas Paqueta to central striker in a tactical masterpiece this afternoon.

Yes, we have knocked the manager very regularly at various levels but that was a move which simply has to be applauded and it tells us as as much and more about the Brazilian than it does of the manager.

The player has settled so quickly into the team and right now we are looking an outfit which he, Bowen and Kudus can inspire at different and very necessary times.

But today it was all about the manager and a piece of tactical thinking which was responsible for setting us on our way, Well done Mr Moyes.

The Kudus goal, instigated by a horrible mistake from Mainoo, was a beauty once executed which was only going to end up in that favoured bottom corner he seems to hit with regularity.

Paqueta’s was the result of a wonderful dink over the defence, at which Lucas is something of a master from game to game.

It wasn’t a great 90 minutes but a response was needed following the Anfield disaster and that came within five minutes of the second half.

It’s an evening when we find ourselves in sixth on 30 points. The football we play at times is poor but to coin the oldest cliche in the business, it’s a results game and despite our regular hostility towards the Scot here on CandH, it’s pretty clear why he is justified in remaining in the job.

For now anyway!

    Moyes tactical masterclasses!!!!!!!!!!

    Oh dear , oh dear…….

    This was not Man City
    This was not Arsenal
    This was not Liverpool……

This was against a very very poor Man Utd side that most teams are beating……….

  • JeremyD says:

Thank goodness Hugh, how great to hear you sounding so positive about DM. He is doing a remarkable job and it must have been particularly sweet for him to beat Man U, which is a club that make the mistake of getting rid of him prematurely. Next time things don’t go to plan, please be patient and remember, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Merry Christmas!!

  • Roman says:

Might I suggest you are giving Moyes too much credit Hugh.

  • Hammer2.0 says:

If you had offered me a top 6 slot by Christmas and a spot in the final 16 in the Europa League then I would have taken that in a heartbeat. I say if Moyes gets us into Europe for a 4th consecutive season, then give the man a new contract. European football attracts better players and 4 years in Europe would be magical.

You are obviously an armchair fan who knows nothing at all about football………who in the right mind wants to continue paying to watch this absolute dross that the sweaty sock insists on playing ???

    • Yes, that’s why I spend hundreds on a season ticket. Merry Christmas to you too. I don’t want him to continue as most people know. But sometimes credit where it is due isn’t a bad idea unless you are a totally prejudiced idiot

  • Moondog says:

I am not a prejudiced idiot at all and I am totally entitled to my opinion……..you try traveling a 370 mile round trip to every home game to watch that utterly depressing style of football ….with fuel , tickets, food , programs, etc then you might just realize where I coming from & accept that I am entitled to my opinion…. After all isn’t that what this site is for ?

    • Yes it is and I am entitled to mine when told I am an armchair fan who knows nothing about football. Excuse and forgive me if you approve of rudeness as was the case with your comment too
