Moyes tells squad they can’t have it both ways

|

Moyes1David Moyes has told the West Ham players not to come to him complaining the intensity on the training ground is too much for them!

Writing in his new London Standard column he said: “I know there has been talk that they didn’t feel they were as fit as they could be and the intensity wasn’t always there.

But I’ve told them that it can sometimes be easy for the players to point fingers at the management, to say it’s their fault and, personally, I would never be critical of another manager.

So I’ve said to them: “If I train too hard and the intensity is high, don’t be coming to me and start moaning that the training is too hard and we’re struggling to do the work because… you can’t have it both ways.”

The bottom line is that, if the players want more work, then that’s all well and good but they are the ones who have to put that effort in.”

And he added that in discussions with the players – which have involved group  conversations – things have been laid bare.

He writes: ” I’ve said that yes, the club can change manager but somewhere along the line, I hope the players here at West Ham can stand up and say: “We need to do better.”

I’ve found the players responsive and I do think they are ready and willing to take responsibility. What I would say to the West Ham supporters is that, from what I’ve seen in my first week or so, the players do care and they are definitely trying to do much better — that’s been very evident in the training sessions so far.”

Good stuff. I’m feeling positive about this change, and am looking forward to seeing what happens on Sunday. 🙂

His press conference went further, they asked him about Arnie, he was complimentary about his ability but said he wasn’t playing as a team player in the games he had watched for West Ham he said though not to single out Arnautovic because he wasn’t the only one in the team playing that way, the press were trying to rub it in about his last 3 jobs, he said he could go on about how many manager of the year awards he has and being one of the only british managers in spain etc but he has moved on and now it is about talking about the future not the past, I like what he says he seems to be very honest about things, he laso said how much time he and the coaching team were doing working on videos to analyse the areas where things were going wrong and things could be improved so hopefully they will continue with that and we will see the results over the rest of the season COYI !!!

There is also a report out there saying that Moyes has been promised funds to bring in 4 players, sounds substantial considering that William Carvalho is one of those mentioned and we know he is in the 30 – 40 million bracket.

Let’s face it, things aren’t going to change over-night , and the bad habits that Bilic obviously let run riot wlll take a few games to remove , so , regardless of Sunday’s result I’m upbeat on Moyes appointment and think he’s just the manager this club needs; hope he succeeds, turns us around, and gets a long-term contract. COYI!!!!!!!!

I didn’t want Moyes but I have to say he talks the talk, the press conferences so far have been really good, I used to hate Slaves press conferences they were so uninspiring and boring.

Well as it goes , westside ; I didn’t want Moyes either . Would have preferred Pardew .
But that’s me and I don’t wish any bad feelings to anybody with a different opinion .
We are definitely in trouble and the Board have done the right thing by letting Bilic go . In fact they may have left it a little late leaving Moyes a lot of work to turn things around .
If the team respond well to him with his different approach then all well and good .
We should get behind Moyes ; he is never the low standard people are accusing him of .
Well , Pundits in fact .
The sheer fact that we eventually woke up to Slaven Bilic should be enough to give us optimism for the remainder of the season . It might not happen overnight but , I feel a lot more comfortable now and relegation seems less inevitable . The players needed a wake up call and the coaching staff needed the same . Sunday will be a tough game . International’s and the ever constant injuries due to , will effect a lot of teams this weekend .
COY Hammers . It starts now .

Agree completely if you take his jobs at Utd he had a similar win ratio to Van Gaal, similar also to Mourinho for the frst 6 months of his tenure and argueably played more attractive football with a team that was harder to manage being the first since Fergie, at Sociedad he kept them up when they looked doomed so he did what was expected, Sunderland was a very bad mistake, you learn a lot more in life from mistakes than you ever do from getting things right, I hope the players respond and start showing their undoubted quality, I also hope he is allowed to sign 4 players in January that can make a difference including Carvalho 😀

He really needs a good start, & i believe we can get that. I’m under no illusions though that we may still struggle, if he achieves 6 points out the next 3 games, that gives us 15 points, but the 3 following are proper hard, City away, Chelsea and Arsenal.
after 17 games we could be on only 15 points and that is bang in relegation trouble.

Bloody hell, Moyes took over Slav’s role at the Evening Standard too! Talk about kicking a man when he is down!

In all seriousness, talking the talk is one thing but let’s just wait a mo and see how we start performing come Sunday. After all, I saw that in response to some questions around his recent managerial record, he reminded the press he was the only British manager working in Spain. How did that go? And telling the players their training lacks intensity, that Arnie needs to step it up and that we are conceding too many goals – Well ffs it doesn’t need Hawking to work this out.
