Moyes throws down gaunlet to Haller

|

West Ham manager David Moyes has publicly thrown down the gauntlet to Sebastien Haller after the player produced a pretty anonymous performance against Liverpool.

And he may have been diplomatically agreeing with those who believe the striker’s body language is telling it’s own story as he appeared to again to be merely going through the motions during the 90 minutes..

The manager said: “I think Sebastien has got to be self-motivated to get his level of performance up so he can get goals and score.

“We will show faith in him and we want him to come back and get us the goals and performances to go with it.

“It was always going to be a hard game tonight for anybody playing against Liverpool it would have been if it was Micky Antonio or anyone else.

“We want Seb to get goals he has done in the past and we will give him the opportunity but, obviously, his performance levels need to be good.”

Many observers to yesterday’s defeat suggested Haller looked disinterested and unmotivated again.

Injured Michail Antonio was sitting in the Anfield stands and Moyes has revealed that he may return sooner rather than later saying that the winger-cum-striker is already back on an exercise bike in the gym.

Moyes’  optimistic target is that Antonio could recover a lot quicker and be back after the international break for the Sheffield United game.

If that is the case that Haller might just have one more game against Fulham to prove himself before Mikey’s return from injury.

Irons fans traditionally will forgive not succeeding but never forgive not trying. The clock is ticking for him to show the right attitude. If I see him walking back to the halfway line again…..

He maybe better throwing the guantlet at him every time he ambles towards a player with nor real intent on shutting them down.

About Haller …. there is much more than what experts talk about.
As a former footballer and coach, I would rate Haller’s performance against Liverpool as reasonable.
    – What was good was his constant pressing in the centre-forward position. This is quite energy-sapping Sep did that. Antonio does not do much of that.
    – Sep does not agitate defenders as per Andy Carrol does. Therefore the defenders enjoy an easy day.
    – Sep’s players, main culprits being Fornals and Yarmo do not feed Seb any good balls, making him even worse.
☆ These issues must really be sorted before the Fulham game. ☆ As well as the player(s) happiness. Some things Jack W said is a concern, as well the manager’s comments and delay with Said B.

Well Simon, you must have been watching a completely different game to myself. What was he constantly pressing? He ambled at best, showed no urgency whatsoever and displayed a couldn’t care less attitude. Only when he thought he was going to be replaced did he actually press anything. By then it was too little, too late. How you can possibly compare him favourably to Antonio baffles me completely. You seem to be blaming everybody else instead of the man with the lazy, belligerent demeanour that is Haller.

To actually take anything that Jack W said with any seriousness at all, is naive at best. It’s clear to anyone who knows when someone is getting personal because their self interests have been ignored. JW is only bitter because he expected to be on the first team sheet every week. He couldn’t accept the fact that he wasn’t good enough to even make the bench! So his comments are misguided and it’s a pretty pathetic attempt to sucker people in to feel sorry for him. You clearly got suckered in there buddy…as a former footie coach you should know better surely. Anyway, JW has gone and good riddance. He has put himself around via the media to get his next payday…a selfish, sulking individual that WHU have at long last gotten rid of. Another waste of space from Pellegrini’s era – thankfully we’ll never see these two muppets at the LS again…ever! COYI

I don’t share your views on work rate but agree that Fornals and Bowen didn’t provide Haller with much service. The real test will be Fulham, where we should have more of the ball and so, hopefully, create more chances.
And Haller is definitely no Carroll. My grandmother was scarier than Sep.

  • Gary white says:

Lazy Frenchman. Just does not want to play. What a waste of 45 million

  • Ian Taylor says:

Frankly I am not convinced that Mr Haller could motivate himself to score in a WHU v The Dustbins game of football.
If the way that the team plays, and the current players are not to Mr Haller’s way of playing either we change everything to accommodate him or we get rid.
    I say goodbye Mr Haller.

Baller does not run,He just stands there waiting fir the ball.To be honest,I didn’t notice Haller at all.As soon as Yarmo came on,the pace shot into gear.We lost the game due to a cheating penalty. The other Liverpool goal was similar to Antonio’s disallowed goal, so that was questionable too.We are always so unlucky against the big teams.I will be happy when we sell Haller. He cannot score at 3am in a Tijuana brother.

I have to be honest I have said for a long time I thought there was something about Haller . However there two sides her to be objective. 1 . He could and should work harder for the team ..2 the team need to play him in he does need service . It’s two fold and we need to get it right at Fulham , cos no matter where they are in the table don’t make the mistake of dropping the work rate , consistency needed. Let’s get that win , keep the team spirit , we were robbed yesterday , cheated even . Let’s move on from it keep the belief & show what we’re made of . I see the West Ham of old , a fighting hard working team I love . , we’re made of iron so let’s show them . . Keep it up lads , COYI ⚒⚒⚒

  • Haller is a waste of time and money. He does not seem interested and is not willing to work. Yes, the system does not suit him, but it works. And who is he anyway. While watching him on Saturday, I wished that someone would actually kick him so that he can go off! But in retrospect, I think the opposition would prefer him to stay on the field. Sack him please!!

  • Gary says:

I watched Haller very carefully. While others are busting a gut running around the pitch which should inspire team mates to do the same, Haller just walks. He’s one of those strikers that people sometimes argue, oh yes but he’s conserving energy. I don’t care because it’s an attitude and demeanour that I don’t care for. I like to see players working hard, I like to see players with a smile on their face. Haller does neither.

  • Jonnyd says:

His FIRST start since pre lock down
    Against the champions
He is our top scorer in all competitions with 5 goals
The criticism is partly valid but OTT
    Deserves a run of games
