Moyes: We must find an answer to pressure on players

|

Manager David Moyes like all his Premier League compatriots is feeling the pressure on the West Ham squad and believes there has to be a decision to reduce the fixture list.

Amid suggestions of a World cup coming every two years from Arsene Wenger and Fifa Moyes is concerned at the amount of games we are trying to cram into our calendar and thinks change would have to be on the cards.

We will have faced three international breaks this year before the end of November which whilst being huge for the players concerned seems to be of less and lees interest to the punters.

And Moyes has made his position crystal clear in view of the speculation doing the rounds on the Wold Cup issue.

Speaking to reporters he said:I think all the big clubs and I am putting us in that because we’re in Europe this year. I think there would need to be a cup competition that does not take place, there is no other way the players can continually play.

The international players have no time off at the minute . [What has happened] this week is wrong, maybe not at our club but other clubs where their players are not going to get back in time to play league games.

When that happens I think we have lost the plot a little bit where we have allowed that to happen and it is up to the leagues to stand up and stop that from happening.

Some of the South American players aren’t going to be available and then in January it looks like Said Benrahma will be off for four games with the African Cup of Nations so that something you think about when signing players?

{it is different with] a European Championship or a World Cup when you know the dates are coming so it can make you think twice if you are going to lose a player for a month of a period during the season which can be a problem.

You have to remember the clubs are paying the players during that time. But I respect all the continents and where and when they have to play their football, but you asked the questions, does it make me think about signing players and I would have to say yes, yes it does.

Of Arsene Wenger’s suggestion for a bi annual World Cup he added:Well, I know Arsene pretty well and I think until we hear fully what the proposal would be we don’t know.
Now I’ve not heard it before but I’m guessing FIFA’s proposal would probably in some way be eliminating some European games in some way or eliminate some cup competitions. But I’ve not heard and this is why when I asked the question.

Until I get exactly what FIFA are proposing and how they think it would work I don’t know.

My only thought is that they’re already suggesting – without saying it – that they’re actually going to be taking games off the programme in some way to try and get this the World Cup every two years but I find it very difficult to see how that can happen.
