New signing suffers injury

|

New signing Thierry Nevers’ was on the scoresheet again as he bagged in the only West Ham goal in the U23 pre-season friendly fixture against Crawley.

It was half-time substitute Nevers’ third goal in two games that did eventually grant Dmitri Halajko’s development squad the equaliser they deserved, the forward twisting inside the box to slam home a close-range finish.

Unfortunately, Nevers was withdrawn minutes after his goal after sustaining a heavy challenge inside the area moments later, with regular U18s striker Divin Mubama given the chance to impress from the bench.

Nevers is thought to have suffered a groin strain and the extent of that injury will now be assessed by West Ham medical staff.

Nevers join the Hammers in June on a three-year contract, with the option for an additional year.

The 19-year-old previously spent nine years in the Reading academy system before joining West Ham for a modest transfer fee.
