Newcastle could offer lifeline to former Hammer

|

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is interested in bringing back Andy Carroll to St James’ Park on a free transfer according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

The Chronicle claims Bruce is a big admirer of Carroll but wants him to prove his fitness first. The newly appointed head coach has already made checks on Carroll’s fitness status with the big striker still recovering from an ankle operation. Carroll has not made a decision on his future yet but has had offers from abroad including China Super League and the US MLS.

Andy Caroll continues to train at Rush Green with permission of Manual Pellegrini under the supervision of a private consultant in an effort to get match fit.

The big boyhood Toon fan and former season ticket holder is said to be interested for a chance to finish his career at his home town but wants to keep his options open until he has recovered from his illness.

It would be our luck that he comes back and haunts us !!

Given what we saw last season, I’d be surprised if he was taken by a Premier League club. It looked as if he’d had one too many injuries and all the key attributes to his game were gone, he couldn’t jump any more, he looked afraid to get involved with the action which made him static and pretty useless. I’d question with his injury record, would a Championship club even take a punt?
