Olympic Stadium: Architects fill the gap

|

infill2Olympic Stadium Architects, Populous appear to have revealed they have found a way to fill the gap between the lower and upper stands behind the goals at West Ham’s new home next year.

Many West Ham supporters have been concerned about the massive gaps on show between the lower seating bowel and the upper seating at each end. On the eve of a Rugby World Cup match at the Olympic Stadium, Populous have released a promotion video which shows the gaps infill1filled in with more fans in place behind the goal.

Whether this is just artistic license on the part of the promotional video makers or a real possibility, only tell will tell but it leaves the real possibility that the gap issue will be resolved and the capacity could increase beyond 54,000. A still image from the video showing the area behind the goals can be seen on the right. The full video entitled ‘A transformation story ‘can be seen via the link below.

  • The Demon says:

As far as I can tell, the capacity is beyond 54,000 already; I read somewhere that there are 77,000 seats but the stadium only licensed for 54,000 as a football venue. This might mean that the very top tier is covered with tarpaulins (in club colours, natch!). Or maybe the architect’s vision could be used for a standing area…..

If true, it does mean that if we wanted to extend beyond 54,000, we could do it almost at the lifting of a sheet, although whether there is any provision for this – cost or otherwise – in the LLDC agreement will no doubt soon come to light when the bitters from Charlton get their way.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could actually get 77,000 capacity for nearly nothing and REALLY **** them off!

  • There are 66,000 seats remaining in the stadium. 6,000 are unusable in sports pitch mode and 8,000 have been removed.

It’s just looking better and better. It really is exciting and a true testimony to the vision of Gold, Sullivan and Brady amongst others. So looking forward to the first game.
And there truly is no limit to the possibilities. They said we would never fill a 54,000 seated stadium. Well looks like we are well on course for that, so why not 66,000 plus. COYI
