Olympic Stadium Ready for Sunday

|

The new roof has been completed, the temporary grass pitch has been laid and the majority of the retractable seating has been installed which means the former Olympic Stadium is now ready for it’s first test event of the Morrison’s Great Newham run this Sunday. If you are going to this event as a competitor or a spectator please get in contact us at Claret and Hugh to let us thought what you think of the rebuilt stadium together with any photos.

The following weekend is the Sainsburys Anniversary games hosted by UK Athletics. I will be attending the Paralympics event on Sunday in block 104 row 4 and look forward to sampling our new stadium first hand next weekend.

All construction work will halt until November.

Is that WITH the retractable seating in place? Bloody long way to the pitch. Players will need a taxi to get on the pitch…

I think the seats have been retracted at the moment for athletics mode.

The retractable seating has definitely NOT been installed. The seating there is temporary, and will be removed n November when work resumes, that’s when hew retractable seating will installed. I wish people would get their facts straight before post suck inaccuracies.

    • Barrowboy, the basic retractable has been installed. I am not sure where you are getting your information from. Many of the construction workers are on CItySkyscraper.com and there are multiple conversations about it. Please reveal your sources if you think you know better.

I am sure there is more work to do in November to make the retractable seating more automated as it involves pushing and pulling with vehicles at the moment.

The CEO of the LLDC himself revealed this week that retractable seating will be used for the first time at the August rugby match. Is he wrong as well?

Happy to be proved wrong but I have no evidence this is not the case at the moment.

I’m sure Sean is only quoting from other reports in the media.

It is being claimed, certainly in the Newham Recorder that indeed the retractable seating is in place and will be moved forward after the athletics later this month for the Rugby. That wasn’t the original plan as published, but certainly the seating that is in place is part of the retractable seating in essence. Its just that we thought it would not be in a state to be actually moved this year mainly due to necessary piling work where the track lays. However as a new track is to be layed anyway for next year, perhaps they are not concerned about any potential damage.. We shall see.

Why is there always people who have to be so up themselves.I always think these people should maybe give up their free time to produce forums for us for no monetry gain for themselves. Then maybe we can attack everything they write if any inaccuracy is found.Im sure they would soon be crying foul 😉

So it’s like the grand old duke of York it is,it isn’t or it’s halfway done. As we’re not using it for over a year does it really matter lol

Just to add we have compared the modules on show presently in place with those modules shown on the development site detailing their design and other renders of them, they are almost identical in design (indeed only the wheels seem to differ). That is why we think that these are the modules to be used. The only confusion was over the end structures which are slightly different presently, though the process for moving those forward and sideways is considerably more complex than the side stands so the exact reason they don’t presently overlap the existing rump concrete lower stand as the side ones do, is still a bit of a mystery to those of us anal enough to take an interest on such matters on skyscraper.

I thought rump concrete might be KNs new nickname lol
You sound pretty well informed Spy so I’ll take what you say as gospel, thanks.
