The club has moved heaven and earth to keep him and increased his salary to £125k a week but the sulky Frenchman wants out halfway through a critical season.

We have set out our whole playing style around PAYET, but with him playing well below the standard we got used to last season, we have obviously struggled. Ironically, I wonder if this is what unites us. We can stop pretending we are club we are not simply because we have (had) one world class player. Maybe now everyone can get behind the club, lower expectations and fight for a respectable finish – pressure is now off everyone – other players can step up and stop trying to filter everything through a clown that doesn’t want to be here.
If this guy had any self-respect, he’d make it clear he wanted to leave in the summer, but commit to giving everything he possibly had until then. At least then, to an extent, no one loses as much as face as what’s happening now.

Refusing to play? Who the hell does he think he is? I might tell my boss tomorrow that I’m refusing to work. Surely he breaches his contract by doing this? Still I think we all knew it was coming. There’s a reason why he’s not at Barca, Real Madrid or PSG. He’s clearly a one season wonder and plays when he wants to. He’s completely used the club for his own gain and I’m so angry right now. I don’t think a player has ever let the club down more than Payet. Even Ince doesn’t come this close.
