Payet has no rabona regrets

|

PayetDimi Payet has defended his audacious rabona which led to the Michail Antonio goal against Watford and aused a furious reaction from Watford’s Toy Deeney.

The Hornets player declared that his side were spurred on the belief that West Ham were reying to mug the visitors off but Payet denied that.

He told the Irons official website: “It was something that came instinctively to me at that time in the game. I thought that it was the best thing to do at that moment and I did it and it worked. When it works, the skill becomes even more impressive.

“If it worked every time, then of course [I would use it]. Unfortunately, it is not a piece of skill that you can use every time, so we will have to see.”

Good, there should be no regrets for the assist.
To me, the thing that is most important about that rabona is that the ball ended up in the back of the net. If he’d have tried it with his left foot, or took time putting it on the right, maybe we wouldn’t have scored.
Yes, we went on to lose after that, but that some people (on other sites) are blaming the rabona for Watford’s come back is stupid. If we had have defended properly at 2-0 up, they wouldn’t have had a chance to come back. It was poor defending, not the assist that got us the second goal, that caused us to lose.

I agree with the above 100% , the more spectacular Payet free kicks , ramonas , step overs etc that result in goals or assists the better for us and in my view the more the opposition are likely to be dispirited and frankly afraid of Dimi’s skills and ability to punish them . Keep frightening them Dimi . More importantly we know we are a ” scoring team ” especially with our full strength attacking options available , it’s in DEFENCE that we need leadership , coordination and solid organisation . A central defending Captain with 100% respect of all those around him , that listen to him , watch and understand and carry out his demands at all times . Who can step up to that plate ??

Why should he have to defend himself. It lead to a goal. Now if it had been like that Kharsis attempt for the Mackems against us at the Boleyn when he feel over it would be different lol
I’m hoping that, though I like Byram & think he will come good eventually,Arbeloa is still up to it.The geezer has top pedigree, has played right across the back & can surely lead or have an influence on our defensive unit.He as been there, done it & written the book.
Knowing our luck though he is a shagged out old robin reliant of a player these days 🙂

Agree with all the above, there are so many boring teams that play numbers stat obsessed risk averse football, we want more flair and freedom of expression from you Dimi, you weren’t to blame the whole team are collectively responsible for the poor defending.
