Pellegrini exit costs – the facts

|

Sullivan and Pellegrini in happier times!

David Sullivan this morning handed Manuel Pellegrini a vote of confidence after four games but should the board ever decide to pull the trigger it won’t cost them as much in compensation as at first believed.

When taking the job it was believed the new boss was appointed on an initial three year deal with compensation payable for every uncompleted month.

But CandH has learned that in reality he is on a rolling yearly contract  and the club’s compensation responsibility is therefore on a 12 monthly  basis.

So  should the Hammers decide to ever do the dirty deed they would be responsible for the balance remaining on any one of those years – not the 36 months!

Were the club to take the decision at this moment for example  which is entirely out of the question – they would be responsible for around £7 million in compensation to Pellegrini plus more to his backroom team rather than close to £30 million.

There is absolutely no thought this will happen but the reality is that no Premier League manager has ever survived seven straight defeats.

Pellegrini is convinced he will sort the issues and will be given plenty of time but he  – as much as everybody else – will be aware of the stats with clashes against Everton (away), Chelsea (home) and Manchester United (home) his next three games.
