Pellegrini: Nothing’s changed but humble pie can be good

|

Over the last three or four weeks I have made my feelings very clear on Manuel Pellegrini and this West Ham team!

And it came to a head last weekend under a headline suggesting he should be sacked or that he should walk.

Nothing has changed of course and won’t until tomorrow at the earliest when all the hopes are that he will somehow conjure what looks like an impossible win from the most difficult of games.

My opinion hasn’t changed on anything but I want it to. I’d love to eat humble pie. I want to celebrate and I want to wake up on Sunday morning relieved and happy like everybody else.

Bitterness and hatred form no part of my nature as far as West Ham’s fortunes are concerned because down the years I have become entirely used to disappointment and grief.

Never was a club theme more appropriate – fortune is indeed always hiding – and it’s at the moments of peak optimism that the cloud covers it.

It would be ridiculous to start talking about uniting behind the team tomorrow because everybody with Hammers in their hearts will be doing so.

I read last weekend a couple of comments from fans where  they claimed that they wanted a 4-0 beating so the manager would be sacked.

Sorry, I don’t understand any of that and whilst I have the most serious doubts I hope Pellegrini can turn things around and restore a sense of stability!

None of the candidates being mentioned seem particularly interesting to me but of them all Sean Dyche – as a tough talking, and  probably over-achieving boss – would be my personal choice.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is a key day in our history – we have had poor bosses, reasonable bosses, now a big name boss   and John Lyall as a great boss.

Should Pellegrini fail I have real worries about where we go from here!

Yes I agree with most of that- it’s physically impossible to take any joy from a defeat or to stop elation from a win (or even draw in this case). But if you have been a long term Pellegrini sceptic there is a difficult conflict. As has often been noted football is a game of incredibly fine margins, and shocks are therefore common. It is quite possible that a poor side can nick a few results (as we did in Aug/Sept when we were a poorer side than results, and many experts, suggested). This could happen again over the next few weeks. Pellegrini saves his job, the owners congratulate themselves & we all start to hope again. But it will probably be a statistical blip. We will still be a poor side with an overrated manager & we will still settle into relegation form in the New Year. So I find myself not looking forward to seeing the Hammers get a pasting, but thinking it won’t hurt as much if it brings Pellegrini’s departure closer. Difficult times….

If it happens can I have slice of pie too please…

I agree with you, a win tomorrow would rest everyone. And nothing would please me more.

What i am afraid of is, amongst others:
-another uninspiring performance from our key players
    -Roberto in goal
    -Holland not given a chance
    -A loss
    -Naive tactics and poor attacking

I dont know where your list of managers have popped up, but i suppose from boardroom leak. Intentional or not, these names worries me too.
Dyche maybe the only positive option, but he is overacheiving in my eyes too.

It comes down to money, and thats why i am worried. Our owners have shown nothing serious willingness apart from giving Pellegrini a huge paycheck, and a couple of expensive signings.

I am worried. Hoping for the tide to turn, but also seeing ourselves on the next level next year = Champ.ship

Try to be optimistic it would be boing if we were 10 points clear at the top
    Of the league

I am head and shoulder with your piece on eating humble pie. Like you this is my team and I stand by them whatever and wouldn’t dream of wishing defeat just to sack the manager. That is not a true supporter. Whatever the result on Saturday I am still 100% with my team. COYI ⚒️⚒️⚒️

Well there will be at least one new manager when we play the Arsenal on Monday week. Arsenal have sacked Emery!!!!

  • Kevin says:

If you want to eat humble pie today, then it will be stale by the time you have finished it .
Don’t sit on the fence ,,, it’s either Pelligrini must go or not .
For me he must definitely go . Today rather than Sunday or Monday . Before the bashing we are about to recieve by Chelsea . A win tomorrow would do nothing to re-ignite my confidence in Pelligrini . He has absolutely no desire to win anything apart from unwarranted wages . His Heart is just not in it and never will be . He is from Chile ,,, not East London or Britain nor England . He doesn’t understand the feelings and desires of the people . End of

I’ll have to take a minimum of seven points from the next three games(chelsea, wolves, arsenal)to satisfy me that pellegrini has got the team back on track.
I personally don’t think he is up to the job and he has lost the team but i would love to be proved wrong.?
