Pellegrini unsure of why the upsurge in form

Pedro Obiang

Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t fully understand why the Irons are playing so much better but is not ready to put all the credit on a midfield three.

Much has been made of a system which has seen Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Pedro Obiang alongside each other and many have declared that the reason we have seen a revival.

But the manager doesn’t see things in quite such simple terms and is honest enough to say: “”It’s difficult to know exactly why the team is playing well.

“I’m not a manager who gives too much importance to having two or three in the middle, but a manager who believes more in passing the ball when we have it and working well when we don’t have possession.

“We need to continue improving in a lot of things. The last ten days we are improving but I don’t think we are at 100 per cent.”
“Our lines are tight and we don’t have too much distance between them, but that’s not just because we have three midfielders.”

I think we are at about 20% of what we can be, when you look at City, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Utd (when playing well) see how quickly they move the ball and rotate positions, see how they press as a unit in open play and at throw-ins corners etc, that is the start of what we should be aiming for imho.

Well I can see one major difference, Wilshere has not been in the team.
