The diggers have moved into the Boleyn Ground today to begin the proper demolition of West Ham’s old ground.

West Ham’s former stadium was initially purchased by Galliard homes from West Ham for a reported £38m but it was later sold on to residential property developers Barratt London in August.

Herts based company Rye demolition have the contract for the demolition. The demolition is likely to drag on for a few months before it is completely razed to the ground,

In a press release Barrett’s finance director Tom Olsen said: “The entire team involved in redeveloping Upton Park recognises the heritage embedded here”

The Boleyn development will include a mix of 842 one, two, three and four bedroom properties and incorporates 211 affordable homes including 125 at affordable rent and 84 available for shared ownership.

Will we have to put up with this cr4p every time a new stage of the redevelopment happens? How many ‘look at what’s being done at the demolition site’ stories are you going to run? It’s all in the past – we had some great times and some sh1t times there, but while it had its charms – toilets that stank and overflowed, thousands of steps to climb, bars that you could never get served at, it was an antiquated mess. Let it go and try to look forwards, not back. And if you can’t resist harping on about it, at least spell ‘Galliard’ right….

Its sad to see but we knew it was going to happen.I was born in Forest Gate,my mother still lives there so it was a massive part of my life but i still know its time to move on.
All this wailing & head slapping achieves nothing now.
Anyway lets have some concept here, people are losing their actual homes in life,we lost a football ground.
Yes it ment alot emotionally to many of us but lets not lose perspective here.

Its embarrassing reading some of the comments about this demolition. Some fans have lost all sense of reality in life.Yeah we get it that it was a big part of some fans lives but some things being said dont even belong in reality.
So we have people getting displaced from their own countries they live in through conflicts & wars. You have people losing everything because of a hurricane & some of our fans want to call this demolition disastrous, tragic, sickening.
    Have a word with yourselves.

100% agree with The Demon, Stevo and Eddie. Are we going to be subjected to articles and stories on every brick being dismantled at the Boleyn. For Gods sake grow up and lets all move on. We are not going to achieve anything looking back. Onwards and upwards.COYI
