PL Clubs losing millions per match says Brady

|

‘Some clubs in the Premier League are losing as much as £10m a match” says Vice Chairman of West Ham speaking to BBC Breakfast this morning.

adding that “All of football is suffering without fans in stadiums.”

The Vice-Chairman went on to say ‘West Ham is losing £2m a match in lost ticket revenue and corporate revenue. There is a pyramid even within the Premier League. Right at the top you have clubs owned by sovereign states and right at the bottom, you have those who are not. Everyone is suffering.’

Brady’s claim was challenged by Football finance expert Kieran Maguire who said ‘Some interesting comments from Karren Brady, but no idea where she gets her sums from claiming that some PL clubs are losing £10m a match from matches taking place behind closed doors.’

He produced a table which shows Manchester United loses the most at £4.3m with West Ham losing around £1.3m in ticket revenue

Perhaps the Baroness was also including the more lucrative hospitality revenue which often included in commercial activities

It’s not the first time that Baroness Brady has stood up in a very public forum and made misleading, or evidence-free, assertions. Whenever I hear this sort of publicity-seeking or vested interest-driven nonsense from her, I’m reminded of the retractable seating presentation she gave prior to the OS move, as well as all of the public statements she made about it not being possible to redevelop the East Stand at UP (seemingly despite West Ham United being one of the largest businesses in the London Borough of Newham). Water under the bridge I know. But because she profited from the OS move personally, and because she continues to appear to be free to make these sorts of statements without being held accountable, I’ll keep banging on about it whenever I get the chance.
