Poll Result: Tight finish for captain’s role

|

MarkNobleMark Noble is slightly preferred to Winston Reid as the next Hammers captain by Hammers fans.

With a new manager in charge for the new season, Slaven Bilic is believed to be considering a change of skipper and if the fans are listened to it will be a straight fight between the two.

ClaretandHugh polled its readers and over 1300 responded thus making the poll acceptable to Mori.

The fans voted Noble into the No 1 spot with 38.73 per cent of the vote  (502 votes) and Reid into second spot with 450 votes ( 34.7 per cent).

Cheik Kouyate was a distant third with 105 votes followed by Adrian with 55 votes.

Common sense at last, Reid has an important season ahead, he would be an ideal choice as vice captain and develop that way. Mark Noble has to be captain, I think Slav is quite clear it will not be Nolan.

  • Si Hammer says:

Noble just needs to get in the side now.

  • barlucjak says:

I dont see him being captain as i dont see him being a regular starter

I wouldn’t even want to have a say in this matter. This is, to me at least, a decision for the manager and players alone. I’m not in the dressing room, on the training pitch, or the player bus or Chadwell heath cantine for that matter..

Well they aint going to send this poll to UP & tell them we have decieded their captain are they.It was just to see who fans fancied to do the job,lol 😉

    • eriko says:

Well my point is, frankly I don’t want to fancy anyone as a captain, because I have no clue who’s most respected behind the scenes.

Mark is a true West Ham fan and loves the club, I am glad that he won the vote on here and is well deserved.
I think that the role of “club captain” is a given and can carry on to the field as team captain when he plays, but in all fairness I think he is capable and can do a job for us.
It is more than tossing a coin and deciding what end to play, I think he would be great in the dressing room and showing real passion, after all he really is “one of us” and not just there for the cash . . .
I am sure the Reid’s of this world if playing instead of Mark can wear the armband and do a job, but if we want to go the “West Ham way” I think a person with the passion for the club like Moore, Bonds, Martin and Dicks like Mark is a good move.
I for one hope that he gets the nod

  • Dainon says:

You need to play to be captain, I love Nobes but is he going to start ?

  • pabloonechop says:

Not sure either are assured starters which says something about the strength of the squad.
Begs the question do we/will we have enough leaders on the pitch. Nolan was certainly that if very little else particularly last season. Thinking about it more widely, who are the natural leaders/captians in the PL?- Kompany, Terry then starting to struggle…

  • rugbyirons says:

Club captain yes.but team captain you have to be in it first.

  • Radai Lama says:

Hang on,we have a captain.Captain Nolegs, has he been stripped of it yet??? 😉

    • boys of 66 says:

No he aint Radai, good point.Bit unfair to look for a new captain when we have one already, lol

    • mattefumi harmless chihuahua says:

Ahahah.. I Like captain Nolegs Rads… And his little brother Andy has one leg… Loool 😀

  • TRB says:

Nolan will be gone before September 1st. His agent will be busy finding him a new club right now. As for Noble, Amalfitano and Jarvis? With Obiang, Kouyate, Poyet, Payet, Samuelson with possibly Lanzini and Song in the squad…….there won’t be a place in the starting XI for them. So Reid must be given the skippers’ armband.

Up front we have Valencia, Sakho, Lee and eventually Carroll available….. there will hopefully be a new signing soon. Hernandez or Austin may possible be the one. When Man Ewe get another striker, Javier will be on his way. Likewise, when QPR finally realise that they won’t be getting £15m for Charlie, he will go as well.

  • bubs says:

Why would you want a player who is not going to get in the team
You may as well leave it with Nolan, that’s why I found it so hard to pick anyone so I went for Adrien as the only one who will keep his place all season
