Poor Irons display but good teams find a way to win

|

Dec and Tomas were both off their games

It is one of football’s oldest expressions but remains true: “Good teams find a way of winning even when playing poorly.”

Such was the case last night at the London Stadium when, despite the incessant diving and simulation from a talented Villa team, the Hammers clung onto win and go fifth in the Premier League.

Yeah, fine, we had our share of luck but that is also often the case when teams are going well- Villa will be feeling sick because they owned us for long periods. Nobody will remember that for very long and we are now almost halfway towards the 38 points many of us thought we would be scrambling to achieve this season.

As written elsewhere on the site such was the level of unsportsmanlike behaviour from the Villains, and the near unmentionable Grealish, this was a perfect result.

They can stick that where the sun don’t shine and GOOD!

Both Declan and Tomas were off their games -probably as a result of international duty – and we are never going to be the same team with those two below-par together.

But that’s three wins on the bounce and we meet one of those “big club” against who we are usually at our best at 5.30 pm on Saturday.

Cheats never prosper in the long term. I feel sorry for cash and Watkins, probably the only two Villa players that weren’t trying to cheat last night. two players that probably would have been playing in London claret and blue if Moyes had got what he wanted in the window. As for the rest of villas team I hope to see them nosediving their way down the league for the rest of the season.

Such a pleasant surprise that we have played poorly for three games and won them all, huge luck against Villa and Fulham especially but hey ho, we have been ripped off by the ref’s for 20 years and again last night so happy to ride the wave of luck for as long as it can continue COYI !!!

We were totally overrun in midfield Hugh and couldn’t keep the ball when we did occasionally get it. Fair play to the lads for a sterling defensive effort though. Credit Moyes too for trying to change it at half time and getting another body in there. We got a goal with it but thereafter they still ran us ragged really
