Reid: Time is slipping away

|

reidWest Ham are still awaiting a response from Winston Reid’s advisers on their £60k latest offer to the central defender.

And a source close to the player claims that the New Zealander may be being held back from proving himself as a top defender by the Hammers playing style

The Hammers are keen to nail a deal down as Reid – in the last year of his contract – could even sign a pre contract for a foreign club in January

A source close to Reid told us exclusively: “Top clubs want players who are comfortable on the ball and defenders who can play and bring the ball out.

“The Hammers play a more direct game where that approach isn’t as high on the agenda and thus bigger clubs are unsure of the extent of his abilities and not as quick to make an offer as they otherwise might be!”

I read Diame’s comments re ‘bigger clubs not seeing his skill in the WH set up’ earlier and laughed them off. But if this is the feeling within the ranks about the current set up that doesn’t bode well.
Let’s hope this is just something agents are using to get a wage increase or move and not how some of the playing staff actually feel.

I hope the board and Sam,will do everything in their power to keep one of the best central defenders in the league.Somehow deep down i just now he will leave.I dont think it is for money reasons,i think he knows he js good enough for a Champions league team.Foreign players are not as loyal to a club, because they have no real affinity with them.We could start by agreeing to his terms?

I’ve noticed that Collins and Tomkins in particular, do tend to ‘launch’ the ball – presumably under orders – invariably resulting in the ball falling to the opposition.

Remember how much better the play was when we had Almunia, he threw the ball out to one of his own side – what a novel idea! – whereas Jussi, and Rob Green before him, used to launch the ball straight to the opposition, putting us back under pressure!

    More of BFS’s brainless ‘philosophy’!

The only person who held diame back was his self if he had given 100 percent last year we would not have struggled and he would have been grabbed by a top 6 team this year Read is making the same mistake . Also the more attacking football we play the less protection the back 4 will get, and Read will show if he has it or not if he has he will go in Jan if he has not Hull will pick him up on the cheap in the summer ,sign now and don’t be stupid the offer is a very good one

Couldn’t agree more bubs mate! When Diame first came to the club he was like a house on fire! All arms and legs and raw potential.
But he was and still is far from the finished article. His form fell away dramatically last season and was only played out of position because he wasn’t good enough to hold down a central midfield place.
If he is ever going to be the top four player he claims to be he will have to improve his end product and stop going on meandering aimless runs into cul de sacs and giving the ball away.
As for Reid well I get the impression that he may not be as good as he or especially his agent thinks he is. £90 grand a week? You’re having a laugh!
But the most telling aspect is probably if Reid is half as good as he thinks he is then, why when he is in the last year of his contract and thus can be prised away more easily and at a bargain, has there been no offers for him?
Oh except a half hearted derisory offer from the arse that they knew would be rejected before they even submitted it! Nuff said!
Reid should take a reality check stop mucking about and more importantly stop disrupting the team and sign a new contract ASAP.
If he doesn’t then bring in young Burke and tell Winston to play in the reserves till January and get rid of him!
No man is bigger than the club! No man should be allowed to disrupt the team like he is doing! COYI!

I have to agree, he’s been awful this season, very distracted, He’s just an ok defender, if anyone can prove me wrong with facts that he is high quality I’ll review my opinion, but he has been with us since 2010 and had a decent season in the Prem and a Good season in the Championship, but other than that…….

      COYI
