Report: Hammers plot Jose Mourinho approach

Rumours regarding David Moyes‘ future have gained momentum in the past week, and the latest piece of gossip links West Ham with a potential move for former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho. It’s suggested The Hammers will plot an approach for the Roma boss in the event of Moyes departing.

It’s anticipated that the ‘Special One’ will conclude his time at Italian giants Roma at the end of the current season when his contract expires in 2023/24 Serie A campaign. This is primarily because Mourinho is facing increased challenges in motivating his Roma players this season.

Hammers plot Jose Mourinho approach to replace David Moyes.

The rumour is somewhat surprising, especially given that Mourinho’s best days in football management appear to be in the past. What adds to the peculiarity of the situation is that West Ham’s Director of Football, Tim Steidten, will play a significant role in selecting the club’s next manager. It’s difficult to envision a scenario where Steidten appoints anyone other than a forward-thinking, young manager.

Currently, Roma find themselves in seventh place in the Italian top-flight, trailing leaders Inter Milan by eight points. While this might put Mourinho under some pressure, it’s improbable that West Ham would provide him with an escape route.

However, appears that Steidten is eager to recruit younger talent and follow the model he implemented at his former club, Bayer Leverkusen. Unfortunately for Mourinho, he may not be the right candidate for such a task.
