Manchester City’s Fabian Delph is the latest midfielder to be linked with the Irons as the summer rumour factory gathers pace.

Mind you it’s easy to see why on this occasion because it was four years ago that Manuel Pellegrini added the 29 year old to his Manchester City pack.

And with the player a year away from end of contract having appeared just 12 times in Premier League action last season it’s a story that makes sense.

However, the emphasis on midfield and prompts the thought that Noble’s age and with Manuel Lanzini having just a year left on his deal there could be some big changes afoot.

The Delph report comes via Football Insider and it’s perfecty reasonable to assume that the player  is being considered should moves for central midfielder Andre Gomes fail.

Gomes is unquestionably the No 1 Pellegrini choice but the former Leeds and Villa player has made 58  appearances at Pemier League level and has Champions League experience.
