West Ham are the only viable option for Roma striker Edin Dzeko on transfer deadline day according to a report from AS Roma Live.
Supporters are desperate for David Moyes to bring cover in for Michail Antonio with his fragile hamstrings but the manager insists he is not expecting much activity today
The Hammers have been persistently linked with a move Dzeko through the transfer window and way before that.
The veteran striker has scored 346 goals in 731 career games for club and country bagging eight goals in twenty games for Roma this season. The 34-year-old also has 50 Premier League goals to his name with Manchester City.
I think the report is a bit of wishful thinking and unlikely to come off today. Supporters are perhaps still hanging on the faintest of hope that ‘something changes’ quoted by Moyes last night.
He went on the add “We have got a squad of players I enjoy working with and I want to concentrate on them rather than people from other clubs”
Although West Ham are short of a backup striker the manager has tried Andriy Yarmolenko upfront in FA Cup, given 23-year-old Dapo Afolayan his debut on which he scored, promoted Mipo Odubeko as a regular on the bench, hinted that Jesse Lingard can play anywhere up front and spoke about a false nine strategy if required to fall back on.
Sorry but he looks like the very striker we should not sign. His best is long gone, he’s as old as Nobes, huge hurrah salary at the end of his career, never going to die in a ditch for us. Asking for a kipper slap if we do this. Develop our young players not demoralise them.
