Carlton Cole was a breath of fresh air on Sky Sports yesterday afternoon and his remarks on Tomas Soucek in particular would have impressed and been echoes by the vast majority of Hammers fans watching.
Sat between the two old regulars, Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp, Carlton was a refreshing voice as the pundits went through their usual ‘let’s talk about the big club’ routine.
Ok, the game was probably about the Liverpool return to form and although Hammers fan CC was there to discuss the Irons he was no doubt chuffed to still be around to watch the Spuds nicely beaten against Brighton to keep the Irons in fifth place.
And although Soucek wasn’t at his best against Liverpool, he has been one of the big reasons for the Irons surge up the league this season.
Carlton wasn’t slow to say so and made it clear that he believed he was the best signing made by any club this season
He said: ‘He’s been immense this season. For me, he’s obviously the signing of any club so far this season out of every club, pound for pound.
‘You talk about Bruno Fernandes being so impactful, in the Man United but for me, pound for pound, he’s been even better than Fernandes.
‘He’s been everywhere. whenever he’s on that pitch he breeds confidence for every West Ham player and every West Ham person connected to the club.’
