Rice apologises for FA cup exit

|

Declan Rice has taken personal responsibility for West Ham’s FA Cup exit after a rare mistake and apologised to supporters after the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old took to social media at 11 pm last night to say “Absolutely devastated. Really wanted to progress in this competition. Apologies for the goal, needed to be better. Proud of the lads tonight, massive effort. Focus back on the league now! We go again.”

A poor touch by Rice in the 97th minute gave away the ball which led to a  Manchester United’s counter-attack in which Scott McTominay scored the only goal of the FA Cup fifth-round tie.

Rice is perhaps being a bit harsh on himself as his statistics show he put his usual shift in for the Hammers

The Hammer managed an 87% pass accuracy, 5 tackles, ( most on the pitch), 8 out of 12 ground duels won, 1 clearance, 1 blocked shot, 12 ball recoveries, 55 tackles won 4 out of 6 long passes (66%) with  2 out of 3 successful dribbles.

It would unfair to blame one individual player for the FA cup exit last night, it was a defensive master class by West Ham for over 96 minutes at a snowy Old Trafford. Teams win together and they lose together!

Our record against last years so called top six is very poor. 2 points to date after games against Liverpool twice-at home man city-man utd -Away arsenal -spurs-chelsea. 8 games 2 points .Says it all. A long way to go.

By that stage many of the players were running on fumes; they’d run their legs off. We lacked that attacking threat as we all know and I’m not convinced Micky would have made much difference, but everyone on the park worked their socks off. Proud of the team. COYI!

Miffed we didn’t get to the QF’s of the FA Cup. It’s the only trophy we can realistically win.
Anyway, now we can concentrate on staying in the Premier League… 😂

    I believe you meant shift.

A bit of proofreading required Sean; putting an f in shift makes quite a difference to the meaning- made me chuckle when I read the piece mind.
