Why Rice may remain a Hammer

Hugh Southon reports on why Declan Rice could remain a Hammer.

Fair play to David Sullivan as the Arsenal talks go on!

The West Ham chief shareholder won’t be moved in his determination to get the structure of payments on the Rice deal reduced from the four years wanted by the Gooners to a year or 18 months.

Declan Rice may remain a Hammer next season

Declan may remain in our colours as Arsenal talks continue

Given that Manchester City have pulled out, thus ensuring there can be no auction for the 24 year old. Arsenal have pushed themselves into a corner having made it clear how badly they want him.

And that in turn has allowed Sullivan to dig his heels in big time, He is taken full advantage of the situation and ensuring that West Ham are the winners in the biggest transfer conducted during their history.

It is already signalling that his intention to take over financing in the current transfer window. This is the right decision as we bid to reinforce the squad to mitigate the number of departures.

Whether Arsenal will eventually agree to his terms is probably immaterial. Because if the do not then expect Declan to be playing his football in claret and blue for another season.

Is it that smart though Hugh? He’s got a year left on his contract so he’s on a free next summer unless we extend by a year. Surely that’s not the way forward.
Somewhere between 1 year and 4 seems a more sensible approach so 2 to 3 years.
