Rice rumour factor sparks up again

|

Barely a week goes by without The Sun claiming that Declan Rice will be on his way before much longer.

This is the same Sun which reports that David Sullivan is getting married when he’s not and tun a variety of other stories which have yet to come about.

This time it’s Manchester City who apparently have their eyes on the skipper after the mainstream media have been unable tp see him join Chelsea or Manchester United.

The reason is that Fernandinho  – having signed a new one year deal – will be on his way next season and as predictability goes that one is as easy to pull out of the hat as it gets.

Declan’s advisers apparently want a release clause inserted into any  new contract he signs with us or to be told of any offers as low as £60 million.

But the reality is tht were City to want the 22 year old they would certainly have to pay something close to the £100 million plus that David Moyes has been insisting upon.

In fact it’s probably more likely the case that with Chelsea and United failing to enter the fray, City are the best next bet as far as The Sun is concerned

We’ll leave it there!

There appears to be a significant effort to unsettle Rice underway across multiple media platforms. The discussion has certainly ramped up since his latest stint with England. Many pundits and officials say they want competitive balance but the League and it’s mouthpieces continue to promote a “Big SIx” mentality and stories like these, that a player like Rice naturally belongs at one of the “big” clubs, falls into that type of information campaign.

I wonder if this and his time with England is having a negative impact on his style of play with us. I’m in the US and watch every match live. It seems to me that, as he wants to drive forward more, it has changed the dynamic of how well he and Soucek coordinated last season. Perhaps that will settle with more matches. And some of his frustrated body language with the passing choices and movement of his teammates seems more excessive than in seasons past. He also seems a little quicker to have a moan when things don’t go our way than he did before. He’s such a wonderful, level headed lad that I hope his hanging around serial whiners like Grealish and Sterling doesn’t, inadvertently, adversely influence his own reactions.

Please don’t think I’m having a go at Declan. I’m not. He’s an amazing talent and he is our field general and skipper. We need him in our team. These are just a couple of things I’ve seen that concern me. They may be aberrations and, of course I can’t see everything on a television feed, so maybe I just saw a disproportionate amount of these sorts of things. He is still playing magnificently and I have faith that he’s going to lead us to great things going forward. I’m more concerned at how the entire league and media machine is geared toward promoting the so called top teams at the expense of the others. Even bloody NBC switched immediately at the final whistle of our match to Man U, even though their match was over as well, so they could fawn over Ronaldo. This will, invariably, have an effect on players and incentivize their agents to become more disruptive.

Don’t The Sun and others publish locally anymore? If so the London clubs should get more coverage than Man U (haha) and others. I like NBC’s coverage as they are normally unbiased with the 2 Robbies and (her name escapes me) who could be a candidate for the remake of ‘Friends’. OK Ronaldo is back in Manchester but for how long? I only found out recently that some players have 5 agents!!! Not good for the 14 and Championship clubs. It has been reported that Rice wants to be advised when a club bids 60 million- that looks like that’d be the end of him at WH.
