Shock name could enter Irons managerial frame

|

Amid all the cries for a managerial replacement very few names have been mentioned as possible candidates.

It’s always the same!

Shouting for someone to be sacked is as simple as shouting at your eight year old to go to bed and shut up – finding an alternative is difficult.

Truth is the names available at the moment are pretty limited and not incredibly attractive although £15 million a year Jose Mourinho would probably be the popular choice.

Not gonna happen of course because he tends to gravitate towards big clubs where he can spend millions, throw a moody ans get the sack with a huge pay off.

Eddie Howe? Been mentioned since before Slaven Bilic but seemingly entirely content to remain on his favoured south coast with Bournemouth.

He’s be ideal as he knows how to work within a sensible budget but he has shown no interest or desire to leave The Cherries.

Rafa Benitez’s West Ham future is well behind him, now ensconced in China presumably earning a small fortune. Think we can forget that one.

Steven Gerrard: Young, hungry, a winner but it’s a hell of a jump from the Scottish Premier League to the Premier League. Decent shout but perhaps too early.

Lee Bowyer: Did great to get Charlton out of League One but Premier League is looking more tan he can bite off at the moment – again too early but one day perhaps.

Chris Wilder: Doing a great job at Sheffield United but it’s early days and  we would probably need to wait and see whether this early season form is genuine or a bit of a blip.

David Moyes: Think all bridges have been burned.

Gareth Southgate: Could be the one with his contract coming to an end with England next year. He’s done a terrific job and there will be a few clubs looking but whether he wants to continue with the Three Lions is the unanswered question.

Who would want to come to a club that appears to have so many issues on every level from the board to the fragmented fan base?
As you say, the likes of Mourinho are not going to consider any club which doesn’t have a massive cheque book. The underlying problems would probably deter the likes of Gerrard from submitting a CV. Would we take a gamble on a young unknown? Unlikely as he wouldn’t be given sufficient time.
The more likely outcome would be a manager from Europe who would find the appeal of London and the challenge of making a name for himself in the PL attractive enough to outweigh the issues the club has.

Haller not worth 45m,lazy and no aggression,Anderson…. can see why he couldn’t get into Lazios team, flatters to deceive, Lanzini too lightweight, and Fornals……..

Spot on with every point you make. When was the last sensational signing we made… Paolo Di Canio?

Could Gerrard, Wilder or Bowyer do any worse? At least they’ll be cheaper.

Gerard would be a great call. Look what Lampard has done at Chelsea. He is fired up, clearly gets players playing for him and won’t take anything less that 100%. That’s 80% of the battle. We have enough talent to make up the gap. He would give some of the better youngsters a chance and get rid of the likes of Sanchez, Reid off the wage bill.

i don’t particularly want any of those, but I don’t see why we couldn’t go for someone like Nuno Santo at Wolves. I’m sure we could afford someone of his calibre and he would be a perfect fit for us

I’d rather have the cowley bothers than mourinho.

  • AD says:

I think Eddie Howe has bigger ambition, although he has left before to Burnley and it never worked out so he came back. I think he could be convinced, but whether our dinosaur owners can do it is another question. He’s the type we need, playing decent modern football with many managerial years ahead.

Actually hadn’t thought about Gerrard – that could be a great shout too…

Others wouldn’t touch with a bargepole.

None of those names are suitable or would come for a variety of reasons.

THIS IS MY 72ND SEASON AT WEST HAM AND WHEN I STARTED CHARLIE PAYNTER WAS THE MANAGER. THE THOUGHT OF HAVING MOURINIO AS MANAGER WOULD MAKE MATTERS A MILLION TIMES WORSE THAN THEY ARE NOW. THERE ARE VERY FEW ENGLISH MANAGERS ABOUT NOW BUT I WOULD THINK THE BOURNEMOUTH MAN WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE BUT ANYONE IS GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CURRENT BOARD . THE SITUATION NEEDS SOMEONE AS MANAGER OF THE FOOTBALL SIDE OF THE CLUB WHO WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY INTERFERENCE FROM THE BOARD . SORRY TO REMIND YOU ALL BUT OUR BEST YEARS WERE WITH JOHN AND RON WHO MADE MATTERS CLEAR TO THE BOARD .ONE FINAL POINT IS THAT THE CLUB DIED THE DAY IN JULY 1989 THAT THEY SACKED JOHN . HE WAS ONLY OUR 5TH MANAGER IN 105 YEARS , HOW MANY SINCE THEN ?

    • Dave says:

Couldn’t agree more with you mate back then in the 70’s when John lyall was only our 5th manager in 105 years I was so proud of that achievement and the fact he was one of our own . It’s been a shambles of a club since !!!

Did the board not cave in to the screaming from the stands. Feels like we want our managers appointed by supporter poll

  • Michael Miller says:

Mourinho – he wouldn’t come to West Ham in a million years, he’d want 200 million pounds to overhaul the Squad, and our skinflint Owners like to run the Club on a shoestring – discuss! 😎

  • Razorwine says:

AD has the right post for me Eddie Howe true he failed at Burnley but he choose the wrong claret and blue in my opinion. He certainly needs to test himself as Bournemouth are not going anywhere other than down again when he leaves and doubling his wages would be a good attraction also being friends with h who also managed at Bournemouth would be useful for him to listen too if he is ambitious. We should remember West ham is after manure the biggest selling of season tickets in the premier and second largest crowds which considering our miserable return on winning things is quite remarkable imo

  • Jeff OBRART says:

I loved the 60’s and 70’s too however money killed the game and VAR is burying it…
We have muppets as owners 2 x ‘wannabes’ with thin pockets and just enjoying personal gain at the expense of the club we love. The 2 muppets are in way over their heads…
I don’t believe Haller is a bad player in fact I think he could be our Didier Drogba but would you want to run around week in and week out all game with no support? How frustrating as a professional to have to endure that. We can easily play a Cottee, McAvennie duo with Haller and one other. We need a ball busting young midfielder like Bonzo, a speedy left back and a creative midfielder because Lanzini is done and the others, all of them are out of their depth in today’s environment.. Of course getting rid of Adrian was another AWFUL decision so we need a goalie too.
