Slaven Bilic is busily building the Andy Carroll good guy reputation.
Nothing wrong with that although the emphasis on it may perhaps need to be a little more balanced at times. We have heard for example what a great striker the manager believes him to be on many occasions.
Now, he has revealed that he is a great bloke because he asked to be released from the team hotel last Friday night so he could go home and put his kids to bed!
Err, wouldn’t most guys leave that to the missus for one night whilst at work! Never mind.
I’m really not at all sure why the manager chose to share Carroll’s request unless it was to help convince us of that that Andy’s an alright guy.
Personally, I’m not sure many care anyway so long as he does it on the pitch. That’s where our interest in him and the others should begin and end surely.
Maybe I could accept this were we to have ever discovered what happened when he was “investigated ” by the club after an alleged all-nighter following the players night out during an international break.
Despite regular bulletins that action would be taken if guilty, nothing more was ever heard of the incident, and like Carroll’s kids, it was quietly put to bed.
Bilic revealed of AC’s Friday evening request : “On Friday night he asked me if he could go home and put his kids to bed and then come straight back to the hotel.”
“I trust him on the pitch though. There he gives you everything. “He doesn’t mind defending and that is why I like him so much.
Maybe with such incidents as so called “post meeting bender,” and fighting off a gun wielding robbers, reputation restoration is a good thing.
However, I am a little surprised the manager should need to reveal such personal details at all and particularly that he TRUSTED a player to return to the squad hotel before a game.
Blimey! All a little odd.
Wasn’t Billic studying law?! Legal jargon, like he is defending Carroll up in court.
Strange. Also bothers me that Bilic made a comment last week along the lines ‘we have to see how he feels’ when deciding whether to play Carroll. Not ‘See if the medics say he is fit’. Years of listening to the misinformation coming out of the club about injuries may have made me see cover ups everywhere, but this sounds like he has some sort of long term injury we have not been told about. After all his problems it would not be surprising. Just reminded me a bit of the similar situation with Dean Ashton a few years back. We really need that top class striker in January!
I despair at times. I really do
Im surprised this wasnt splashed across the front pages of all the nationals.A massive story like this deserves national coverage.Bedtime Storiesgate, what a scandal 😁😁😁
You may have missed the point either 1 delibrerately 2 for sarcastic effect 3because you are a Carroll fan or 4 you dont believe in balanced behaviour
