Soucek reveals sleepless nights

Hammer Tomas Soucek says he struggles to sleep after a West Ham game because he is so pumped replaying the game in his head.

“When I come home from a game I can’t sleep,” Soucek told CBS Sports. “Many times the clips from the games are running through my head, what I could do better and what I did well. Sometimes, well, many times, I watch the game again.

“It’s like practice. Practice one is what I do on the training pitch. And second practice is what I watch on the TV, what I should do better.”

Asked whether he watches a replay of the West Ham game on TV when he first gets home Soucek says “It’s one of the first things… because my wife is waiting for me every time and she wants to talk about the match, how I enjoyed it and tell me what she saw. Then she goes to sleep and then I’ll watch the game. I know when my goals are so I don’t wake her!”

Soucek has been one of the signings of the year for West Ham,  he joined from Slavia Prague on loan with the Hammers paying a £4m loan fee, they made that permanent by paying the Czech republic club another £14.5m.

There have been times when I’ve struggled to sleep after his and the team’s performances. This is a man who is as straightforward and honest in his approach to the game and life in general as one could be and for him to explain his night time problems is pretty typical of the fella.
