Southgate silence as Rice and Co discuss moves

|

Gareth Southgate hasn’t felt the need to stop England players discussing their club futures at the England squad’s training camp.

Declan Rice, Harry Kane. Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker and James Maddison are the major names whose futures are under discussion.

And whilst Declan is clearly on his way from the London Stadium, any of Maguire, Walker and Maddison could be arriving after being linked with us.

A massively busy season with the World Cup making it a very busy conclusion to the Premier League now sees the England stars facing more games before their “season” comes to an and.

And it seems that some of them are spending time discussing which clubs they may be off to this summer with the four main players having a chat about their various clubs to those who may be joining.

And Southgate is aware that such chat is impossible to stop and said: “I haven’t felt the need to say anything. I mean, the players are tapping each other up anyway on the quiet, so I can’t do anything about that!

“What I have said is that these things run their course, they happen in their own time, you can’t force it as a player. Don’t get frustrated, don’t be asking all summer. You don’t need to be updated on every call that happens.

“There’s a lot of negotiation that goes on. I remember as a player getting too wrapped up in every detail of that.”

England are training at Manchester United’s Carrington base.

United left-back Luke Shaw posted pictures with Tottenham striker Kane and Rice, both of whom have been linked with the Red Devils, with the caption “Carrington tour” on social media on Saturday.

“It’s to do with the club, really, but of course when we are here we are always together and we have a joke about it,” said Shaw.
