Spurs defeat drops Hammers out of Euro zone

|

Newcastle 4-0 Spurs

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur at St James Park today to move ahead of West Ham in the Premier League.

The Magpies leapfrogged the Hammers and Manchester United (who travel to Bournemouth later today) into 6th position to take pole position in the quest for European football next season.

Spurs harmed their own chances of Champions League football with the defeat. Due to English teams poor performance in Europe, it could impact the number of clubs who could qualify via the Premier League. European spots in the EPL could be awarded as low as 8th position but that’s looking increasingly shaky in the last few days.

Newcastle 4-0 Spurs: Eddie Howe’s Toon team have moved above the Hammers

Spurs had no idea how to deal with Howe’s Toon team who were scintillating in the first half where Alexander Isak could have scored four. Micky van de Ven who claimed midweek to not care about West Ham’s progress in Europe, slipped over to allow Isak to score the opener.

The Hammers can move ahead of Newcastle with victory against Fulham at The London Stadium tomorrow.
